Six Bells Revisited

Thanks Anthony, Colin and Neil for prompting me to go to the Six Bells.  I was there last night from before 9:00pm to midnight and it was my best night out for a long time.   From the moment I ordered at the bar I was caught in conversation and it lasted all night.  As we were from all different parts of UK including Brentford and Chiswick the subjects were rich and varied from Sinatra to Dr John, from Haworth to Shere, from chihuahawa to alsatians and from old Brentford to its future .... Of interest to many on the forum were recollections of the first Beatles and Cilla Black shows, shows at the Chiswick Empire, the Queens Hall cinema in HalfAcre, the old High Street shop fronts and wooden paving, the trams, the boat companies such as Clements Tough, the building of the existing Brentford Dock estate. On a celebrity note the Six Bells just pips the Waterside Cafe (nee Marina Club) with 3 celebrities to the Watersides's 2 of Peter Osgood and Marlon Brando.  The Six Bells has Lonnie Donnegan who rehearsed his band tirelessly, Ant&Dec who drop in now and again and Eric Bristow (there's a top calss darts team there).Joyce is the landlady and has been for years.  At weekends there's rock bands for first set often switching to acoustics for second set.  A good date is December 16th when the Riverside Pirates have a booking - they're from the boats that were around Brentford Lock and play banjo, guitar and drums with songs such as Streets of London. This is a place to visit in Brentford for a highly enjoyable evening if you kep up with the conversation.
