Anthony you are talking quite logically - that would be far too much for EDS - logic doesn't come into anything they try to do, I'd say it was all a conspircay if I thought for one minute they had the brains for it - but I'm afraid it's just a cock-up.

Were the whole gang laid to rest, or have they all had time off for one man? Surely one day for a funeral is enough what about putting another gang on for the half day they normally work. The trouble is a job on the council or one of it's contracters is like a job at Westminister, do as little as possible for as much as possible.

David,Thanks - I've re-sent it to david.palmer rather than to streetcare@hounslow.gov.uk (FAO David Palmer) - although the earlier postings seemed to say that streetcare was where breaches of skip regulations should be sent to.For info, do you get many responses from the public reporting infringements ?Regards,Tim

Think this Officer's letter should be nominated for some sort of award - not sure if it should be fiction or comedy, perhaps fantasy??????????????? Are you sure you are not having your leg pulled on this?

Obviously our sympathy goes to the bereaved person - however this "work" has been going on for months and months, so without calling the officer a liar I think this is a load of old b.s. - but thank you for at least getting a response even if it wasn't what anyone wants to hear. EDS really do need to get their act together - they take on too much and simply haven't the staff to do the jobs, leading to this farcical situation.

Sorry for the delay in posting this response but I just needed to run it by the Officer concerned to check he would not mind me publishing it on here.Dear Councillor FisherRef: Worple Avenue, IsleworthI refer to your e-mail regarding reconstruction works at the above location.Due to the nature of the specification for this scheme, two specialised gangs carry out the works. The first gang undertake the kerb line reconstruction and concrete sub-base works. The second gang undetake the bituminous surfacing works. This may give the appearance that certain stretches are left for some days, however as stated, as the scheme is made up of two specific elements, the specialist works have to be undertaken by two different gangs. Unfortunately, recently, EDS Highways Service have suffered a bereavement within the workforce resulting in the loss of a tarmac gang. Measures have been put in place to increase resourses and we will investigate further and closely monitoring workman conduct on site.It is anticipated that all works will be completed on 2nd week of December 2006, weather permitting.I trust the above is of assistance and if you require any further information please contact me.Yours SincerelySatbir GillDeputy highways Network Operation& Maintenance Managercc..Andy Williams      SM&PP Complaints

Hmm - well I'm still waiting for an acknowledgement of an email sent to David Palmer care of Streetcare in June enclosing a rather poor phone picture of a skip lorry on the pavement in Heston Road.I was expecting a reply along the lines of"Thank you for your email and pic.It appears as if this lorry was in breach of our current licensing conditions. However, for us to take action on it we would needx ...........y ...........z ............Unfortunately we cannot proceed on this instance but I hope I have provided information which is of interest to you and may help on future occasions.We value the proactive response of citizens keeping an eye open around the borough. "Instead - silence. Perhaps Streetcare don't read emails ?Perhaps they are chronically understaffed and undertrained temps are all that is at the sharp end ? I don't know. Perhaps Streetcare replied but all their messages to me bounced back (it sometimes happens).I did copy Paul Fisher in on the email a bit later on and he  did mean to mention it to David Palmer - but as a new councillor I can well understand he had quite a few other balls in the air.I must admit I haven't seen any obvious breaches since the summer - but then maybe I haven't been in the wrong places.

Thank you for that Nigel.We have, quite simply, been abandoned by Hounslow Council.  Where there is no will, there is no way.  As with the planes and Mogden, there isn’t anyone in charge.

No - I am referring to the farcical performance of EDS the Council's own "workforce" who have now run nearly two months over the time they should have finished re-surfacing the pavement in ONE road, where incidentally a local Councillor lives - but I do agree Sarah that your many pleas should be investigated too.

‘Nothing about re-surfacing pavements then?’…surely you mean … Nothing about the wanton vandalism of the pavements by delivery drivers especially skip lorries and builders vehicles?...Puh-leese!:-)

Yes Jim,the future of these meetings is modern technology at its best which I must admit is a little daunting.No yawning or scratching to be allowed or at least not on camera ;-)
