I have had a bit of a run around on this (sigh!).  The information available, as I was told by somebody at Isleworth Recreation centre today - is a bit of a mystery.I (now) understand that Dr's have the referral forms and these are sent off to a NHS representative for application to join the 8 week programme which is run though CIP at a couple of centres dotted around the Borough including Isleworth.  The form which I have had sight of suggests that the programme can include Swimming and exercise classes - I was told on the phone on Saturday that it was only for the gym.This is the information on the scheme received via e-mail a short while ago.Run through CIP - Hounslow PCTPart of a Healthy Lifestyles ProjectCalled "Exercise prescription"*  8 weeks use of the gym, swimming pool and/or exercise classes. *  Use of the facilities under guidance following health screen and GP’s/Health worker’s referral.              *  Overall aim is to empower and motivate the individual to make informed choices and improve his/her health psychologically, physically and socially.*  To raise awareness on health issues *  To gain knowledge regarding health*  To motivate the client through the use of exercise.*  To be able to identify areas of need and help meet the health needs through exercise.*  To increase clients body and mind awareness*  To develop skills and experience of an exercise and activity nature.*  To allow individuals to experience different and appropriate forms of exercise.*  To develop health/fitness and a more active and positive life*  Develop appropriate exercise and health plan for the client *  To provide a support network that encourages continuation of planObjectives are -*  To help develop independence*  To reduce dependency on surgery’s, health centres and medication            *  To develop a range of coping and life skills *  To increase interest in activities and facilities in the local area*  To improve the general level of health of the clientProcess is -*  GP/Health worker assesses appropriateness of client for the course.*  GP/Health worker fills in referral form and sends it alongside any relevant information to the Lifestyle Officer.*  Lifestyle officer contacts client to arrange date for health assessment and induction to the gym.*  Client will be charged £2.50 per session. He or she must be committed to maintain the 8-week course and an independent follow on program of a further 8 weeks is also offered at £2.50 per session once the initial program is complete.    Programme is -         *  The client after receiving the health assessment and attended the induction is given an appropriate exercise programme *  The client will attend on a regular basis to carry out their programme under qualified supervision.*  The client will express any concerns to the instructor who will evaluate the progress of the client and feedback any relevant information to the Lifestyle officer, Health worker or GPREVIEWAn evaluation will be made in conjunction with the clients as to the effectiveness of the programme and if agreed, a review will be made for a later date to help monitor any progress or lapses.Any reports on the clients’ development will be sent to the relevant GP on request.

neil,The England cricket team......oh what a disappointment after all the glory of 2005.I confess I couldn't watch much of the action, it was just too painful.Oh for an afternoon on Turnham Green back in the 1940s - never champions but lots of enjoyment, sitting back in a deckchair in the sun!  (Lies all lies - I sat on the grass and watched the folks in the deck chairs watching the men on the pitch).Roll on the summer and Lismore Cricket Club.

I have been using a gym in Hanwell for a number of years but have been looking at the packages LBH offers for the local swimming pools/recreation centres.  I popped in to get the leaflets from Isleworth yesterday (detour to the library next door to meet Councillors Shirley Fisher, Genevieve Hibbs, Paul Fisher and a hello to Phil Andrews after seeing Councillors Sheila O'Reilly and Barbara Reid last Saturday).I have previously found the information about joining a gym to miss bits of important information but these were better than the private gyms which never appear to give you the actual costs!  After ploughing through the leaflets and some searching of their web site - I found a short mention of the referral service through the Drs to use the gym under supervision and at a cheaper rate.I still had a few unanswered questions which took a phone call to answer (why is it that the local centres are an ‘0845’ number which means that they are not free under the BT packages?).The answer about the Drs referral is you can obtain a referral from your DR and use the gym in the mornings under special supervision at £2.50 a visit.  Otherwise the pay as you go rate for the centre is much higher and although the information suggests there is no minimum joining period, you cannot do a few 'trial' visits at the direct debit rate, without setting up a direct debit - which means you are tied in to pay/join for 4 months minimum.Worth thinking about?

So pleased to hear you are back and 'about' again, Jim!  Did you have a traditional Scottish Christmas?  ... and a few ceilidh's?  Just watching everyone leaping about, is exhausting!I hope to climb Ben Nevis this year .... oh, crumbs, now, I, have, said, it .....So far we have joined the Ramblers association and bought me a pair of boots, now ...  all I have to do is wear them in?

Hi Sarah and all.I'm back at last after some 3 weeks travelling and visiting family on the Isle of Lewis..but the flu virus clobbered any chance of fun and games and healthy pursuits!Wasn't the build up to Christmas hectic again..with that fund raising for the Xmas decorations..then the dishing out of 100 boxes of Mince Pies..and that rushing around to visit all and sundry. I get exhausted by it all.Winning that Harrod's Hamper in the Mayor's raffle was just the tonic I needed before I drove north..and I shared all the contents with my close helpers and I just had the Harrod's Christmas Pudding with the Harrods tub of Brandy Butter. Wow.What a treat that was.I must now slim. My pot belly has now reached 50 inches..can anyone beat that?Glad to be back..and Happy New Year to all.

My travels watching the England Football Team will take me to Moscow in October this year and I have managed to book a return flight for just £124 return.We are also playing in Tel Aviv in March which I am really looking foward to visiting and then Andorra a couple of days after which I suspect will be played in Barcelona.June brings a couple of days in Tallinn Estonia as well so a great year ahead for travelling.

Looking at the very long list of prizes my only regret for the Mayor is that I would guess that the value of prizes received exceeds the money raised. Clearly, this is no criticism of everyone who contributed or won prizes. However, I think there is a lesson for us all in to ensure that future events are more widely supported.

PaulPlease do not embarrass me by asking who won the prizes at last night's Indian Overseas Welfare Association Christmas dinner.  A clue - 150 people, seven prizes, three Community Group members present, one of them picking out the tickets.  The shame!
