For the Safer Neighbourhood Team?
Would somebody please take a look at the pedestrian traffic lights on the A4 between Ealing Road and Boston Manor – I think they are just past Windmill Road, as you travel towards Gillette corner.I have witnessed 2 accidents along there in recent years – the last one being a shunt around 4 months ago.Firstly the left hand light (kerb side) is skew-whiff. All the lights may not be operating – or the dislodged slant of the post may mean that the ‘shutters’ on these lights are now blocking the light itself?(Does anyone know why some lights have these shutters on them, anyway?)Were these pedestrian lights positioned before all the redirection of the traffic along the A4? The lights appear to be in a strange position for drivers to notice them and take heed of them after making the turn onto the Great West road, from both directions. At a point where a driver is accelerating, there is no clear visibility of the lights (especially if one is not working!) until they are fully around the corner having been watching for oncoming traffic. They are then instructed to do an emergency stop. The second shunt was of a car crossing over the A4 from the Ealing side of the road, going under the M4 flyover and turning right onto the A4, where he accelerated into the back of a car which did an abrupt stop at the lights – probably after spotting the right hand light as being red as the left hand one (kerb side) was not working or not visible at the time.
