Is Labour Done For Round Here?

When the Conservatives announced that they had chosen their candidate to stand at the next general election - Mary McLeod - I had looked forward to the contest starting in earnest, particularly from Ann Keen's side.What a disappointment! Nothing. Not a whisper.Has Alan Sheerins left the country? Have they shut down their castle on Chiswick High Road and moved away?And, of course,Jim Lawes and I are still waiting for the re-launch of their all singing/all dancing website which was so embarrassingly binned last Summer. Mary McLeod MP does have a certain ring to it and a certain panache -but I hope Ann Keen won't completely submit without putting up a fight!

David was a key Labour Party councillor in the last administration..and I recall that he sat on the Scutiny Committee...at one time he was Chairman!Just imagine that he was at the centre of "Scrutiny" in an organisation spending £625,000,000 each year...that's nye on TWO BILLION every 3 years...and you would have thought that clarity and tip top information would have been an essential requisite.That's another reason why "they" had to go!

I'm just as baffled as you Jim. Wasn't KS1 approved by the last Labour administration? If so, how could the Tories have possibly made £2 million from it? Some answers please Dave.

What do you mean?Are you talking about the "S106"(?)commission to the Borough amounting to £2M from the Key 1 site developers? Wasn't that  used to built the partly finished Conference Centre next to the Civic Centre..to enable ..amongst other things..large banquets to be held.(This Conference Wing will probable cost some £4M in total..thus incurring a further drain on the Civic Centre coffers...is that so..I dunno!)Or, David, are you referring to something else which you have gleened from the Labour Party/Council grapevine and about us outsiders have no knowledge. More concise information please! Re "Stuffing the residents of Hounslow" I would suggest that you,  and your Labour Party and trades union colleagues have been doing that quite nicely during the past 30 years..and that "black holes" are currently being discovered..which sadly won't get broadcast too much ..unless there are some whistleblowers happy to tell all.

I am still delighted that the Labour Party lost their domination of the Borough Council in last May's elections.A change was certainly needed...and thank goodness the local electorate got good advice and campaigning messages..even via these Forums.The good work of Phil Andrews and his colleagues saw to much of that...I supported their opposition to the local Labour Party...not all the LP members..but those who were causing a problem.  It's a delight to see the current Borough Council at work on the Civic Centre webcam.At the next General Election..a local vote for a Lib Dem candidate will..in my view..be a wasted vote...and it would be a good idea if they decided not to participate!If the local electorate want to see Mrs Ann Keen MP actually removed from her Westminster Seat..there is..in my view ..only one sensible option. That is to support Ms Mary MacLeod the new local candidate for the Conservatives. There is no other better prospect..is there?

Leo,You will not need reminding that in the whole of Chiswick,Brentford and Isleworth there are only  two Labour Party (Hounslow Borough) Councillors these days out of a possible 21.I'm sure you might agree that many are happy to see Matt and Ruth still working as the two Councillors in the community for the Labour Party and that keeps some sort of balance in local affairs.But..two out of twenty one! It would seem that the local Labour Party monster headquarters in Chiswick High Road should be considered for selling off and the possible £2,000,000 revenue raised put to better use!Yes it is staggering that the Labour Party website was launched with all those spelling mistakes and then aborted after Forum protests. Considering how far they trailed last time there isn't a hope in hell of them winning, the only person that can do that is our very own Lib Dem Councillor here in Brentford.
