Market trial ends
With no little regret, I'm writing to say that the trial of the Farmers market in Brentford will be coming to an end for the time being. There are two major reasons. As anyone who has visited will know, it has been difficult to attract stallholders. Most recently, Flour Power City decided that it was not financially viable for them to continue to attend. When they first attended they did very well but report a fairly consistent week-on-week decline. They tell me that they took around £200 in each of their final weeks; not enough to make their attendance viable. I have been trying to find ways to enable Ringden to return selling their popular apple juice (including offering to sell it myself). However the logistics have proved impossible, largely because of the other markets in the immediate locality - West Ealing, two in Chiswick, Richmond, Hammersmith, Barnes etc . Some local residents have offered to make and sell produce - samosas, cakes etc. Sadly, it's not possible to do this until kitchens have been inspected for safety/hygeine certificates. Costs are also a consideration. Chief amongst these is Public Liability Insurance, which I will need to extend. It's sad that the market will end. However we have established the use of the space - I will be leaving the key to the removable bollard with Grand Union - and I hope that I will be able to assist other events to take place there.
