Houhslow Cat hitches ride to Leicester

Found this on W4 so decided to post it on TW8 as it is closer to the scene.A Hounslow cat became an unexpected stowaway on Thursday when it hitched a ride all the way to Leicester.The ginger and white puss jumped into the back of a workman’s van as he carried out some work near the Great West Road, in the area between Jersey Road and Ash Grove.The stowaway was only discovered by the van driver after he had returned home to Leicester.It was then handed in to the local RSPCA branch, but had no name tag around its neck.A RSPCA spokeswoman based in Leicester said: “He is perfectly happy and healthy.”If you believe the stray is your cat, please call the RSPCA’s Leicester branch on 01162 336 677.------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just thought i'd keep you updated on Mark the cat. Unfortunately dispite another peice in the chronicle owners haven't come forward to claim Mark. we will keep him here another week just to be on the safe side, but we have a lovely family from Leicester that would like to adopt him once we have had him neutered. He will be micro chipped so if he gets into anymore vans he will be able to be reunited quickly with his new owners. The family have passed their home visit and hopefully he will be very happy with them. Thank you for all your help in trying to locate his owners.

The Brentford ,Chiswick and Isleworth Times carries the story too.It was,again, especially good coverage as a picture of the actual cat in Leicester was printed.NB: The junction is ASHLEY DRIVE/ Jersey Road.Wonder what the result will be. At least the cat is being cared for.

Hi bothmany thanks for your help with this lovely little boy.just to set your minds at rest, he is absolutely fine and has settled in well in our cattery. he is a real favourite with the staff and loves his fuss and tickles. he arrived last Thursday afternoon at about 4pm. I immediately contacted the Hounslow chronicle and another weekly news paper in the area but have had to wait till this week for them to be published.I also did a radio interview on radio Jackie last Thursday. however if you have any other media contacts then i would be very grateful. Sadly the Evening Standard were not interested in the story. I have informed the Southall RSPCA and the RSPCA national head quarters of his where abouts. if you need to speak to me my direct number is 0116 2242432. many thanks again Lisa

That was quick Marlene..the Hounslow Chronicle has published the story very pronto...in today's issue.Sunrise Radio (which specialises in broadcasts to Hounslow folk)  took details but didn't seem too excited..and may/may/may ring me back.

Hounslow Chronicle will carry the story tomorrow.This cat will become so famous he may wind up getting his own talk show -'chat' show!

I just spoke to a nice young lad  at the Chiswick, Brentford and Isleworth Times (first number on the list)  He told me the story will be in that paper this week.Now onto the next one.By the way is Vyborg near Valhalla and Nirvana in the State of Al Kahal?

Jim, Are you still in Finland? I have sent Stephen Abbott a second email asking him to do a story in the local press. I will call Nina tomorrow and if you have a contact for Sunrise radio I can call although I am in meetings tomorrow PM.I really do appreciate all your help. Stephen Abbott,who sent in the original message to the ChiswickW4 Forum,  works for the Brentford Chiswick and Isleworth Times.  So he could well be asked to re-do the item.(020 8939 1500)The Hounslow Chronicle (try Nina Rossi on 020 8538 2209) circulates locally too.I don't get the freebies so have no contact with them.The boss of Sunrise Radio lives along the way....maybe a call out to the local Asian population via his station may do the trick!  You phone them or I?

I have called and emailed the RSPCA in Leicester (several times) but have not had a reply. What newspapers are there that will take up this story? Is there a Hounslow Chronicle or an Osterley Tribune or even a Brentford Bugle?

Jim, I called the RSPCA but it is early closing today. I thought they could maybe send the puss down to the Southall Branch of the RSPCA. Also it would be good to have this in the local press. I wonder where the original story came from?Anyway thank you for all you have done. I shall try again tomorrow.

I suppose if the cat was collected from Leicester by someone..and brought back to this area and released (with  my address on the collar)...the cat might find it's own way home!Wouldn't it?And if it's gets waylaid...someone would look at the collar and contact me?

The RSPCA in Leicester are still looking after this cat and it is in good condition.It is a short haired ginger and white cat (male)  about 2 years old.I have placed some 10 notices on lamp posts and trees in the Ashley Drive/ Jersey Road area of Osterley..and will report on progress if and when.

Marlene, a regular Forum poster on W3 and W4 Forums has drawn my attention to this story.This poor cat, it seems, is currently marooned in Leicester..having jumped onto the back of a local van here in Isleworth.The location of the van's open doors would have been just along the road from me...in Jersey Road, Osterley..at the junction with Ashley Drive.I'll post some CAT FOUND notices on local lamp posts and  phone the RSPCA in Leicester too!Thanks Marlene.PS: This once happened to me. I drove my van from Isleworth to a Warehouse in Oxforshire. When I opened the van's back doors..a cat flew out and ran away across a field.Maybe this new story will have a happier ending!
