Brentford Clean-Up Planned.

People who live on the Syon Estate are being invited to join the second of two clean-up days on February 18 (10am – 4pm), which focuses on the community centre at Hawthorn Hatch.Graffiti will be removed from the building and a children’s playground. In addition, litter, flytipped rubbish and abandoned cars will be taken away.A barbecue, pool, table tennis and other activities will be provided after, including a special “talky-oke” session. This involves young people talking about their experiences of anti-social behaviour.  Cllr Phil Andrews, Hounslow Council’s lead member for housing and community safety, will be joining in. He said: “We know from previous clean ups that they have a really positive impact on the community involved. It’s a huge morale-boost to see a rundown area cleaned up and transformed. These weekend clean-ups are a great opportunity for people to make a real, visible difference to their local area and have some fun too. If you can spare some time, please get involved.”The first clean-up day takes place on February 17 and centres on a piece of wasteland located between Brentford High Street and Brent Way. The land has become overrun with flytipped rubbish, abandoned cars and unwanted tyres. Some of the materials that have been dumped are potentially dangerous, and people are asked not come along to the clean-up there unless they have had previous experience and have appropriate clothing. The cleaning blitz has been organised by Hounslow’s Community Safety Partnership, a collaboration of agencies including Hounslow Council and Hounslow Police. It is the fifth Community Action event in the London borough of Hounslow this year, following successful similar initiatives in Hanworth, Chiswick, Hounslow and Feltham.Staff from Hounslow Council’s Community Environment Team, Community Safety Team and police officers will join forces with members of the community to clean up this area.Untaxed and abandoned vehicles will be removed from both sites. If members of the public are aware of an untaxed or abandoned vehicle, on either site, please make the relevant authority aware beforehand. For cars parked on a Hounslow Homes estate, call 0800 0856575. If the car is parked on a public highway, please call 020 8583 5555.For any member of the public that would like to get involved, please call Insp Lindsey Hannigan, of Brentford Police, on 020 8247 5989.
