Re:Brentford clean up

Can anyone with freetime on their hands please help out with the clean up of the Syon Estate on Sunday 17th Febuary, others involved are the Brentford Police with Sgt Bev Green and her team, Hounslow Community Saftey Partnership and local councilors and any members of the public who would like to help.Tasking for the day will be clearing out abandoned cars removing graffiti and removal of rubbish.Meet up at Hawthorn Hatch on the Syon Estate at 10am. Two pize draws will be taking place after, one for adults and one for children plus other activities.All offers greatly recieved.

Jim,I wasn't aware there were to be any community payback personel in attendance on Saturday but will find out more! The graffiti at Syon gate has been noted by Sgt Bev Green who will tend to it in due course.Well done everybody for Sundays effort, I am only sorry I had a prior engagement so could not attend.

Well done to the few people who apparently turned up.Apparently Kathy Riley all day and her other half, Cllr John Hardy and a small group of youngsters doing "Community Pay Back time"I took these pictures this Sunday morning..through the railings.  The area is possibly going to be used as a car park for local traders and their customers. Any traders attend?ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo It is reported that the one of the Community Pay Back-timers did an outstanding job and that he should be rewarded perhaps. The others skived off site for many hours during the day..and seemed to show no respect for the duty that they suppose to be performing. I gather that their hours record should be "docked". Edward can you investigate this?ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooIt reminds me of an easy-going prison up in Yorkshire where prisoners are allowed to go out to work in local factories...at night!!  Did anyone every check?  No!!A prison official phoned the factory one night to hear that these people weren't there,  rarely turned up..and must be elsewhere!!Talk about control!!ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooThere's still lots to do!  Kathy and Cllr John Hardy were short of support seemingly!!

JimExcellent photos as always, and well done Paul, Shirley, Jon and everybody went along.  I'm sorry I didn't manage to fulfil my promise to get there, unfortunately my son's football match went on later than usual and, having been advised that the event was almost over, I was conscious not to give the impression that I was turning up for the photo shoot once the hard work had been done (memories of Ann Keen following the Syon Park demo in 1997 come back to mind).Obviously the task of keeping this area tidy and functional is an ongoing one, and one in which we all must play our part.

Kathy Riley also mentioned this morning a plan to deal with grafitti on some of the equipment in the children's play area.ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"When I'm bigger..I'll have a go at that railway bridge in Brooke Road!!ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooAt the top of the slide!ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooOne person mentioned that they were alarmed that dogs were allowed in this children's play area. Indeed we saw one being taken for a play around the area..and there was no sign of a poo-bin  or a poo bag in the dog owners hand.In Chiswick by comparision, the Strand on the Green recreation ground has a designated compound for dogs!  Action Brentford..be fair to the Hawthorne Hatch children!oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Great credit to Kathy Riley one of the main organisers..and she had already done  a full day at the Brentford place on Saturday too! There was no time for porridge and a cooked breakfast today..I had  to get down to that Syon Estate place for the big meet up at 10am!Not quite the mass gathering that Nigel organises for the River Thames embankment clear up..but support trickled in as the hours went by.Nonetheless there were some locals and Councillors who worked their hearts out..clearing up the fallen autumn leaves and mess around the Hawthorn Avenue Community Centre. No, we were not clearing up the whole Estate!...just a pocket of fenced off land around the "Rose" community hut,and the playground.During the first hour I was most impressed by the prompt and hard working endeavours of the Area Committee vice-chairman John Hardy..he swept up leaves galore..and neatly too. I just held up the black sack..ready for his shovel load!!vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvBut where were the young local families..and youths?vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvThere's more to report..but it was delightful watching this happy couple taking a deserved break. They had worked so hard clearing up the litter etc. Well done to them.Where are those youths who are suppose to be doing Community Service?vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvSeveral policemen watched the proceedings at different times..and one even became active and pushed a little girl backwards and forwards on the swing!!

They probably had a good seesion yesterday (Saturday) in that open warehousing area between the High Street and Brent Way...but I'm off shortly to see everyone in action on the Syon Estate..with replacement camera in hand.See you all there..wakey wakey!
