Council Tax

Can someone please tell me that I have got this perception wrong (hopefully) regarding the proposed increase in Council Tax.Precept for the GLA £303.88 pa or £5.84 per week on a band D dwelling!No increase in local Council TaxIf I have got it right and this recommendation is accepted, how on earth are the low paid, and the elderly not in receipt of benefits  expected to find this amount.Cllr Connolly has intimated that crematorium charges may well increase, so even the journey to the knackers yard is not sacrosanct. Please someone, tell me I am wrong?

PhilI never was any good with maths. That is why I asked wiser owls to explain. I can see now where I went wrong. What I should have done was look at the actual increase in the precept (£15.27) and divide this by 52 which comes out at 29.3653846p per week as you say (1.1%)Thanks to all who replied

AndrewIf you will be paying an extra £5.84 per week to cover increase in the GLA precept then you must be living in a big house.  The average (Band D) increase is 29p per week.I think the figure you are quoting is the total GLA precept, not the increase.

SarahHaving come out of my senile induced sleep, I am still unsure about my conclusion that I will be paying an extra £5.84 a week council tax precept. I believe this will go to Ken for the little "Jollies" he has got lined up. He will soon be visiting his mate Fidel in Cuba I've no doubt! But I digress, how much am I going to be "stung for"?

The GLA precept in 2006-2007 was £288.61 for a band D property. In 2007-2008 this will rise to £303.88 an increase of £15.27 for the year. £12.57 of this increase is being paid to the Metropolitan Police Authority to fund their Safer Neighbourhoods Teams.
