Dr Ali Dizaei: The Borough Police Commander's book

The extracts from the Borough Commander's book 'NOT ONE OF US', published in The Times newspaper recently, made for..can I say..gripping reading.  Some years ago..before he joined Hounslow Police.he had been called in for an interview with top brass..what could it be about! The extracts in The Times were very well written...and readers' interest is retained. There can be no doubt that 'our' most senior Police Officer feels much aggrieved at the treatment he was subjected to.  He obviously feels that his side of the story must be told.There is even a Google video in cyberspace of Chief Supt Dr Ali Dizaei promoting the book..and explaining 'what it's like to be pursued by the British Establishment. At my very nice evening out with the Labour Group and Margaret Beckett (puh-leese! I had to name drop so that you know which event I am talking about ... sigh)  son and I had a short chat with our Chief Superintendent, Dr Ali Dizaei.  I wanted to say that what came across, in person, is how obviously proud he is of his command and people.Front page talks of his move to a bigger command - and we wish him well.

I heard the last part of the R4 programme last night, when an extract from the book was being read.It sounded like a thriller!!  The next espisode is tonight!

It is probably available on pod cast - and may be one of the free ones, if you check their web site out, Vanessa.  For a senior Policeman, with advanced interviewing skills, he didn't fare too well, IMHO ...  ...  ;-)

Well judging by the timidity of some I don't doubt it - but for all that we do still have the right to pass an opinion, the Police in this country Police by consent, and as we foot the bill that surely gives us the freedom to express our view. I just feel that this is someone chancing their arm, it makes me very uncomfortable.

VanessaCan you believe that this "Hounslow" book is "Book of the Week" on RADIO 4?Extracts from it are being read out over the airwaves every day this week at 9.45am....and just after midnight at 12.30am.There are one or two websites ..accessed via a Google Search..that add flavour to the long running saga.I suppose it's a difficult subject for locals to discuss on these Forums for fear if getting into trouble!!

Have seen some extracts in The Times - he makes me feel uncomfortable to be honest, I wouldn't for one minute defend the Met. in their previous clumsy and frankly terrible treatment of him, but there is an element of blackmail here I think. How many of us have been for various jobs and thought they should be ours and not got them? Same with promotions, he seemed to be daring the Met. not to promote him and came unstuck. Sorry but for a police officer he's a great self-publicist and his book will be his version of events, personally from what I've seen and heard of him he isn't half as good as he likes to think he is, and I've worked with a lot of senior police officers over the years.
