Health tourists
A British Hounslow Grandfather of five children and 11 grandchildren, is denied life saving drug to treat lung cancer (mesothelioma), caused by breathing asbestos. How on earth do these people from PCT's sleep at night? Meanwhile............ 'Health tourists' leave tens of millions in NHS bills unpaid More than a third of the money spent by the NHS on treating "health tourists" last year has not been repaid.Tens of millions of pounds are outstanding because patients from outside the European Union, who are ineligible for free treatment, have not settled bills. The problem persists, despite an attempt to crack down on it by the Department of Health in 2004. A survey of 106 hospitals, ranging from large trusts in cities to smaller district general hospitals, revealed that treatment valued at £27 million was given to ineligible patients last year. Of that, more than £10 million has not been repaid. Dialysis for kidney patients is in crisis, but we allow beds to be taken by people who do not have this treatment in their own country. If the NHS is to survive, somebody has got to get to grips with this abuse.......pronto! What other country gives free health care to non residents? Who was it who said "The NHS is safe in our hands!?
