Huge Fire In Layton Road

The Fire brigrade (around 30) and police (around 15) have been trying to put out the fire in the Food Processing Factory since 10ish this morning.  Apparently they will be there until tonight.  BBC,ITV and reporters in big attendance. Watch the news tonight.

This is Layton Road, Brentford today, looking eastwards. The food factory building on the near right was the scene of the smokey smelly fire.ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooFrom the railway footbridge one can see the damaged side wall and the destroyed roof. We can guess that the inside of the building is an absolute mess.

The fire started apparently when a refrigerator on the first floor "exploded" according to a gentleman I spoke to last night at the scene.  A team of Polish workers had to flee the factory in a hurry.and were probably aghast at the sight unfolding before them.You can smell the lingering odours of the fire from the railway footbridge..and also see the damaged roof etc from there too.Edward: yes pity that the graffiti has arrived again after all your hard work.  Some of those tags should be identifiable.

Looks to me like the factory that use to have rats running around the forecourt some years ago..climbing over the smelly food crates outside the building!  I remember calling to see the boss!!  I'll pass by there tomorrow.  It was also alongside grafitti land just near the railway foot bridge.Sad that some people may be out of work all of a sudden. It looks like Ruth's picture was taken from Brook Road South.

What horrid black smoke and fumes Fran!Those poor firemen having to get so close to the building too!  Good to see that Ruth managed to get some snaps for the front page.Was it on the news? Perhaps I can find it on the BBC London webpage..video. Hope no one was hurt..the fire happening when the factory was open perhaps.
