Jim's back.  Ann thank you for your comments.  I so love coming to this forum. This forum does wonders for my health. My ancestry search is incredible. My Mum's heritage is causing  some headaches.  Our family thought mum was raised in Troon, but appears not. Her family didn't go to live there til 1938, my Mum was 11 years old.  I received an email from the Troon connection asking about Mum's sister Eveline, this gentleman went to school with her and was looking for Eveline re a reunion, but sadly I had to email him sad news. Eveline passed away in 2000. But like the Brentford people, Troon people have also been incredible.  Not only in Troon, but another gentleman emailed me saying he knew a little about the my Mum's family, only to find out he lives 10 minutes away from me here in Adelaide. He came out from Troon in 1973.  So again it's turned out wonderful. My mother was illegitimate so finding out more about her is a problem, now taken up by Val at British Ancestry. We actually don't know now where my Grandma was born, this is where Val hopefully can help.  I advise everyone to talk to their parent's, relatives etc to find out anything before it's too late.  I'm also researching my husband, Dean's past. We thought his father was one of 11, NO, he's one of 15 children. I found that out by speaking to the curator of the cemetery.  There are 4 deceased younger siblings in unmarked graves. Dean's father, Fred is 88 and still has all his marbles (so to speak) so I'm always on the phone to him asking him multiple questions.  Everyday my children ask "what's new today".  I also keep looking at my house photos that Jim took, and especially the ones at Trafalgar school. June found the photo of Trafalgar school and I am waiting for the 'postie' to come, I haven't heard his motorbike yet.  So hopefully I'll be back later with photo/s.  I must check back to when I first asked my question on this forum about Coley's - it was 13th April, can you believe it!  Did I say that one of Dad's workmates now emails me? Isn't this just great. The Internet has certainly changed my life.So nice to read your posts again Jim.  Ann you said you're back, where have you been?  Have a nice day,Joan.

Twickenham is always a pleasant area to visit..and today I found myself in Third Cross Road to visit CPS the car battery supplier and checker. Then across the road to visit the Carton Supplier!First of all a quick look at Twickenham Green..as I believe Joan was asking questions about that open space on the TW3 website. The trees are still there..and the cricket square..which is roped off. They seem to look after the pitch. Anyone remember the radio broadcaster Peter Murray who used to play on this ground? I played there about 6 times over the years..and remember that if anyone scored 0..the scoreboard showed a picture of a duck against your name! How cruel!!---------------------------------------------------------Looking eastwards towards Twickenham town centre. The toilet block in the distance..at the far end of the Green..have for some time now been converted, with extentions, into a flourishing cafe/restaurant. Mothers can take tea whilst their youngsters play on the grass!---------------------------------------------------------The Church opposite the Green. What's missing?  The trolleybus wires..long gone!!---------------------------------------------------------Now we turn into Third Cross Road! and soon the School comes into view. Pines the printing factory is no longer there next door..having gone broke and owing people like me ....money!I asked permission..and was able to take some pictures in the Playground!---------------------------------------------------------Joan might recognise the brickwork and design!! It seemed a very friendly and colourful place!---------------------------------------------------------more pictures in the pipeline..on this topic..perhaps tomorrow!

I have been overwhelmed by your greetings and nice comments. and I much appreciate them all.It was Joan who mentioned the tins baths and yes they really were what many of us used in the old days ..infront of our coal fires..in our little living rooms back in the 40's and 50's.  Our parents must have been hardcore to live like that..with those V1s and V2s flying overhead too.In later years we went upmarket and started going to the Public Baths (Slipper baths?) in Belmont Road Chiswick..and no doubt some  of our readers used the Baths at Brentford in Clifton Road.Anyway, time to cut the cake!!  (don't we have fun on here!)-----------------------------------------------------Victor wondered about the small size of that bath..well that's the one we used.  Crikey, I must be a bit bigger than my Dad was..even though he ate at the Chiswick Works canteen!------------------------------------------------------Now, who took that big piece!!------------------------------------------------------Wasn't Joan great sorting out that picture posting technology so quickly...well done Joan.---------------------------------------------------------Friday night I was taken to celebrate at Shepperton in that old Square and then afterwards at Edwinns. I got up so late today that I missed the Whitton St George's Day Parade..so instead want to Feltham!!So we need a google picture of that Adelaide Suburb..or a locality map that we can explore around.Must look at Joan's pictures again. So: reduce your pictures (or someone elses!) to a vertical size.of say 447 ish.Upload to your hosting site.Get the url ending in jpgAdd img src= to the frontAdd > to the backAdd < to the front.. and it should happen. It's like putting on handles on the URL front and backand wow the picture appears.Nigel was clever and added music to his posting..once again using handles and a recorded item.  It could only be heard on IE and not MF.So, Joan was born in Fourth Cross Road in 1951, she lived there till she was 9yrs+...then moved to Feltham in 1960+and then went to Australia in mid sixties.

More tears today, but joyous tears. Memories are a wonderful thing. Jim you have done an awesome job taking photos. Our families all love looking at them. I have just got off the phone to my sister. I was explaining these new photos to her and more memories came flooding back. The house on the corner was owned by Miss or Mrs Martin. I used to go there after school until mum finished work at the laundry. Mrs Martin was a very strict lady, demanding my manners. The house was beautiful inside, spotlessly clean. We attended Trafalgar Infant's/Primary School. There wasn't a printing factory there then. June started Trafalgar in 1953, Johnny in 1955 and myself 1956. We can remember the daily bottles of milk, with their silver foil tops. Can you remember that? The milk was so cold or frozen. There were 2 storey houses behind us. We remember a laneway. June can remember them better than me.In the Google picture we can see the new estate where the laundry once used to stand. My daughter Natalie has been trying to help me insert pictures into this post, but to no avail. So she has got me to put them in this way. Hope they work. Sorry for the inconvenience. This is Mr & Mrs Smith. Looking at our house, they lived in the one to the right of us. This was taken in their back garden.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/littledarlings/mrmrssmith.jpgThis a photo of mum holding me (Joan)out the back of 32 Fourth Cross Road. The coal bunker is to the right. The tree is where Johnny speared me with the garden fork in my foot.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v356/littledarlings/MumholdingJoan.jpgI'll have to try again to insert photos.  Then I can put a couple more up. Do you remember having a bath in front of the fire in the old tin bath? Fun days??In the meantime if you Google Earth us, you will see where we live. June and Johnny and one of my daughters live at Tailem Bend. Tailem Bend runs along side the River Murray. The river is main our source of water. Tailem Bend is 1½ hours away from Adelaide, approx 100 kms. Google - 2 Park Terrace, Tailem Bend, South Australia. For me, I live on the outskirts of Adelaide, about 20 mins by car. Google - 44 Edmund Avenue, Paradise, South Australia. I back onto a high school oval. Several parts of Australia are having a severe drought. We in Adelaide have water restrictions. As you zoom into Tailem Bend you will see vast areas of empty land. We do not have water resources to facilitate large townships. Please keep any photos coming. We are loving it. If only Mum and Dad could be here. Now we ask why wasn't this done sooner? I have only had the computer for 6 months and still very much a novice. I hope I haven't bored you all. Best wishes to all you wonderful people. Especially Jim for the photos.Kind regards from June, Johnny and Joan.
