Brentford Exhibition 'History on The High Street'

An exhibition entitled History in the High Street will be held in 22 shop windows along Brentford High Street  1-19 May. Walk along from Grounds canalside cafe at the west end of the south side of the High Street as far as Goddards, then cross the road and walk down from the electrical shop on the corner of Catherine Wheel Road and along to Dew Drop Inn to see the exhibition panels in sequence.The subject of this exhibition is Victorian business man, councillor and collector, Thomas Layton who left his massive collection to the people of Brentford. There was a questionnaire linked to these posters scattered around Brentford Town.... indeed a question and answer competition.The first 3 all-correct forms received back..were to receive a  Book prize.Have the 3 been won yet??  If so perhaps we can publish the questions..for interest to our many readers both a home and overseas!

Nothing like going down to Brentford Bridge and the lock on a sunny day like today.So the (looking at the posters) trail starts off at Grounds Coffee Bar and eaterie..by the Canal.Pick up the leaflet and map from Grounds' bookshelf.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------You'll learn something from every poster!

I've seen a few of the posters in Shop Windows..whilst  I was having my van handwashed.Trouble is you go into a shop to get the quiz leaflet, start talking to the shop assistants or proprietor and finish up buying! Well , that's goodo for High Street trade..which we should be supporting.I'll test ride that bicycle at that new store again tomorrow!!The posters are a good idea..and give some cohesion and a united front amongst the traders.

Thanks for that Stephen.  It should arouse much interest and encourage people like me to get out of their cars and walk around!I've managed to extract the Map from the Thomas Layton Website and hope that helps.
