Why do we allow the promotion of the fastest  growing contributor to climate change?

That is exactly what advertising flights does.And advertising is essential to the raison détre of airlines ie growth.'Michael O'leary of Ryanair confirmed this by saying that massive marketing would be vital to launch a long haul service.The recent Open Skies agreement will cause a massive increase in carbon emissions -even without a single extra flight- as slots are traded from short to long haul use. I've started a petition proposing that advertising of flights be banned (as we do with tobacco and casinos)and need 100 signatures to get a reasoned government response as to how it is that we continue to allow this. Someday, I'd like an independent audit on whether any of these petitions make an atom's worth of difference. I suspect not.They almost certainly don't, according to SnopesI have flown to the Czech Republic for less than it costs to get a train to Plymouth. While the massive 'invisible' subsidies to the airline industry continue (no tax on aviation fuel, no VAT on tickets) while our train system is left in the hands of the private sector things aren't going to change anytime soon I'm afraid...
