For once I agree with John on Prince Harry. I believe he should have gone to Iraq. He joined the Army and should be sent with his regiment. His uncle was in the Falklands.I appreciate and respect your opinion, but his uncle Prince Andrew did not face terrorists and suicide bombers, yes it was extremely dangerous, but he flew helicopters which had the protection of the Sea Harriers overhead.Yes, he should have gone to Iraq, but I believe he will be damned if he does, and damned if he don't. I can fully understand the grief of the families who have lost loved ones, having served in Malaya during the emergency myself. He would have attracted suicide bombers, like the proverbial s*** to a blanket. If he was captured they (Al-Queida)would demand the release of all the toerags held in captivity since being captured in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Please consider the men who he will have under his command, who would be under enormous pressure, not only from the insurgents, but from the locals as well, who would want to catch a glimpse of him out of curiosity. It as a difficult decision for the commanders to make, but whatever your point of view, I believe that the decision not to send him was the right one, not just because he is an heir to the throne, but the safety of his regiment which is paramount. I agree, that the way warfare is conducted now, it would perhaps be better if royalty was kept out of the services altogether. An NCO who had served there on two occasions, said he was relieved that Harry was not going, for the reasons I have stated.
