"His mother was my maths teacher at The Green School & she used to talk about Tim being at Uni at the time. She & her husband were involved in innovative research & work in IT too."Yes, Mary Lee Woods and Conway Berners-Lee met around 1949 while working on the Manchester Mark I computer and later its commercial version made by Ferranti. In the 1960s, just after I had joined Ferranti, I use to meet Conway sometimes at meetings. He always seemed a lively and eccentric character, which was typical of Ferranti in those days. It's nice to be able to say "I knew Tim's dad", though it makes me sound rather ancient!Tim's OM is richly deserved, particularly as his invention was a completely open one, unprotected by patents or royalties.
