Hi Neil,When someone mentions "CHISWICK PARK" people think of all sorts of different locations in W4!From the District Line station in the north (opened 1879), to the current business park in the west(opened in 2001?)...or the old Chiswick ward of that name mainly in the middle south east(!)..or they mean Chiswick House grounds (first opened to the public in the 1930's)..or, if they are sports historians, they will direct you to the top cricket ground in the area in Sutton Lane...called the Chiswick Park Cricket and Lawn Tennis club (1880's onwards). There was a farm called Chiswick Park..where the golf club you mentioned was..and it's all now buried under Staveley Road..that cherry tree lined road that Queen mary liked to visit! On the other side of Chiswick House Grounds was located the Grove Park Farm....the farmhouse is still there used for social housing..and the farmland forms part of Dukes Meadows and area of the Chiswick Farmers MarketSo, thanks for highlighting the golf course of old Neil..my studies have mainly concerned the Cricket Ground...and the old level crossings!etc ..extensively covered in the past on the W4 Forum. Grove Park Terrace is worthy of a book on its own!
