I hear what you are saying Conal but you don't seem to be addressing the point I was making, which was that coalition with the Torys was the only path open to the ICG if they wanted to take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to realise their objectives. Bear in mind they had been elected by their local people on a promise to sort out certain local problems which had poisoned the community for years. They could hardly have turned round to these very people and said "we are now in a position to do something if we want to, but we have decided not to", could they?So could I ask you please Conal, politely, what you would have done after the 2006 election if you had been leader of the ICG group on the council and found yourself in Phil's position. Just hypathetically. What would you have done differently? It is a reasonable question, asked with respect, so please don't flay me alive. I'm just curious because although its obvious that you think Phil has acted wrongly, I'm not clear what you are suggesting he should have done instead.
