Let Ealing Southall result be a warning to the Tories

You can't win Brentford & Chiswick. Stand aside and give the party with the real momentum the chance to tackle Ann Keen.I'm utterly delighted Lit came third.

In the last election Alexander Northcote for the Conservatives  was about 3,000 votes ahead of Andrew. If you make the assumption that most of the people who voted for Phil Andrews would vote Conservative given that he is not standing then you can make that lead up to 4,000. In addition the Lib Dems hold only one Council ward in the constituency.This puts the Tories in a seemingly clear second place. However given the momentum of the Lib Dems from the last election and the high work rate of Andrew maybe they can get their noises in front and be seen as the clear anti-Keen candidate but only if the party sorts itself out at the national level. I don't think Ealing Southall tells us much because I think Cameron used it more as a means of enhancing his party's reputation with ethnic minorities than anything else. The seat wasn't really winnable for them and anyway boundary changes would mean that if they did by some miracle get it they would have lost it next time. From a strategic point of view the worst result for the Tories would have been a bad outcome from the Lib Dems who then would have dispensed with Ming for a more dynamic leader. As it stands with the Lib Dems so low in the polls the Tories are clear second favourites for this seat although the Lib Dems probably have the best candidate.

Andrew.The special factors at work in Ealing Southall are unique to Ealing Southall and have nothing whatesover to do with Sedgefield. Sedgefield is a completely different type of constituency where Tories vote Lib Dems tactically in the hope of defeating Labour - as they do in many constituencies in the North of England.

I am sure that if Tony Lit had wanted to be elected to parliament over all else, he would have joined the Labour Party who would have been delighted to have had him - just as much as Labour were delighted to receive his company's money !I think that Tony Lit did a lot better in Ealing Southall than some other candidates did in Hanworth Park recently.Or the Labour candidate who came third in the Ealing Celeveland Ward By Election. There were some special factors at work in Ealing Southall that perhaps have more to do with the politics of the Indian Subcontinent than politics in other constituencies.

As spin that doesn't really rate - what were your lot thinking of selecting a chancer like Lit who's only just joined the party? Hardly a dyed in the wool, loyal member, he's one of the bunch who'd join anyone they thought would get them into Parliament, I doubt a political thought or principal ever crossed his mind, that was a really stupid move and it came unstuck.

I read that the ballot papers in Ealing Southall had 'Cameron's Conservatives'printed on them rather than just the name of the party.Is this true? If so,how strange is that? Is putting 'Cameron' supposed to make them irresistable? Seeing as they came 3rd this looks like yet another Tory blunder, along with picking a candidate who only joined their party a few weeks before the election, had his picure taken with Tony Blair and donated money to the Labour Party. Truly, you could not make this up.

Fair enough. I'll drink to your reasons Vanessa.The man is a chancer, like Dave "Chancer" Cameron. He can go back to modelling underpants.  There was a thing on u-tube about him modelling underparts a few years ago.
