What counts as junk mail?

I've spent a little time recently delivering postcards about Brentford festival door to door. I don't put these through letterboxes bearing the No Junk Mail sticker, as I don't want to annoy anyone, but it seems a pity that by displaying this sticker people are not receiving information about local events. It's for this reason that I haven't used my No Junk Mail sticker - I accept that I have to deal with pizza leaflets etc if I want to make sure I get news about things happening in the area. What do people think (especially people who do display the sticker)? Does news about Brentford events count as junk mail?(Incidentally the festival is on Sunday 2 September in Boston Manor Park - see www.fobm.org.uk for more information.)

The ICG newsletters Phil Andrews says I don't get through my letterbox in Brentford count.I can assure everyone we had newsletters 21, 22 and 23.Pork pies and junk. Thats sums a certain person up

You're so right too Virginia...hidden away houses and estates one normally doesn't notice.I'm looking forward to another hours walk later today..and let's hope the rewards are visual with a little bit of chit-chat here and there!!I forgot to mention that I ignore the "no junk mail" stickers only because the leaflets I have been voluntarily handling are both attractive and have some important messages for the Community.

Quite agree with you, Jim. It is so interesting to see other people's gardens; there are some beauties, like those in your lovely pictures - thank you!Leaflet distributing is also a good way to get to know the area. You see roads you'd never think of walking along otherwise as they aren't on the way to anywhere.

I've stopped using my junk mail sticker as I believe I was missing out on a few things..like the Informer newspaper, or Church Circular etc etc.Isn't leaflet distributing rewarding though..and such an eye opener. It ensures one gets out of a car, or off the bike..and  gets those legs moving...and after some half-hour one can work up some steam!The joy is seeing some of the pretty front gardens and the cared for porches.  Out of 500 letterboxes recently I've only come across one barking dog..several friendly cats..and one or two who scarpered!  Out of 500, 5 were badly smelly houses..and about 10 reeked of spicy cooking.  Three houses were a right mess.However, its was the front gardens that cheered the spirit..and the half-dozen friendly residents who were outside their homes.  Here are two Isleworth treats:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to Keith and Simon for encouraging remarks. I'll ignore junk mail stickers in future when delivering community interest items.I asked someone who had a no junk mail sticker if she would like a card about the festival and she said, Oh yes - it's Brentford, isn't it! so I was even more encouraged.

VirginiaI don't Live in Brentford but i do have a "No Junk Mail" Sticker on my letterbox.Things i call Junk mail is Pizza leaflets and Taxi cabs Cards.I don't think what you have is classed as Junk Mail its Info about where you live and if I lived in Brentford i wouldn't be upset to find your leaflet in my letterbox.

I don't think it does Virginia.People may well appreciate having the chance to participate in the festival and may not have found out about it otherwise.If they do think it is junk,well more fool them...
