Council facilities for Leasholders

I know that it seems like we all have a go at the council for their appaling service but it really is true. You might be forgiven for thinking that payin service charges and ground rent and council tax entitles you to some basic level of service from the council but that appears to be not the case. Take this case in point: I wanted to hold a small birthday party for my son who will be 1 this year, so rather than do what most people do, that is just hold it anyway and ignore everyone else, I decided to be considerate and check with the council first to make sure it was all above board (we apprantly have an informant in Cedar Court that delights in making hard-working, high-paying residents's lives difficult)I was told flatly that under no circumstances could I hold any sort of gathering in our communal gardens (which are quite pleasant) and that I would be treated harshly if I did otherwise (presumably the informant would be watching)It was going to be a family gathering for a young infant's first birthday, not a rave or steam powered fun-fair with some jelly and ice cream etc on a picnic table. So in summary I cannot use the gardens for any purpose whatsoever, other than for my neighbors to let their dogs deficate in it, unless I want the wrath of the council on me.Remind me, why do the council extract so much money from me each year? What on earth do I get? Nothing that is the fact. What do law abiding, hard working people like me have to do to get some fair and equitable treatment rather than stung for thousands of pounds to pay for councillors pay rises and staff strikes and their very generous pensions?
