Don't know if this fits in with your criteria - I understand that Gunnersbury fishing lake was leased out and run by Acton Angling (?).I heard (don't know if this is accurate and I haven't checked if the lake is closed) that after many years the lease costs were raised so high that they had to withdraw and now the lake is abandoned and running into neglect?  This is a complete loss to the local community. The age ranges on the lake varied young (in school holidays especially) and older (retired).  Taught properly, the youngsters learn to be creative and kind to the fish (useful life skills) along with patience and team working with the other fishermen.  Appreciating a fellow anglers  catch even if it is bigger than your own is a considerate respect as well. What is the Council playing at if it only seeks to make a profit out of such a venture? why not work with the club and have it maintained as it has been for years and expand fishing as a sport.  Many children need quiet concentration and fishing suits that purpose too.My eldest son went to a local sports college and fishing was considered an excuse to tease.  He went through the school alongside a friend and neither would admit that they fished in case it 'got out' so they didn't realise they shared a sport amongst the 'rugby and football' promoted by the school.  They eventually bumped into each other by the lake at Gunnersbury in their 4th or 5th year at the school.Anyone know if the Council is seeking to run and support the lake and the sport on its own?  ... not ... so will the lake eventually be abandoned completely?
