Syon Safer Neighbourhood Team - Metropolitan Police

Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Sergeant Pete Murphy 50TX. I joined the Metropolitan Police Service in January 1993. During this time I have served in several London Boroughs including, Richmond; Hounslow; the Territorial Support Group, Hammersmith & Fulham and returned to Hounslow in 2002.Three weeks ago I took charge of the Syon Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) based within Brentford Police Station. Prior to this I enjoyed running the Osterley & Spring Grove SNT. The Syon Team consists of 1 Sergeant, 2 Constables and 3 Police Community Support Officers (PCSO's).Community policing brings the police and the community together to solve problems of crime. If we work together, we can make our community a safe place to be in. I am keen to have an excellent rapport with the Brentford Community. KeithAgreed a map somewhere of the Syon Ward would be most helpful. It extends further than you'd think..and there are busy estates hidden off the main road..that have appeared out of nowhere.  Here is the article in the BC&I Times this week..page 4..and it's probably similar to the one you saw. It appears to be that area of newish property area north of the London Road..on the Tesco Express side of Busch Corner.I recall the Tesco Express manager saying that of the 18 or so trolleys they started off with..only about three are left. Scalleywag people have taken the rest.  I shouldn't think local residents are happy about the sometimes noisey people drinking outside the pub either.

Sgt Pete MurphyThere appears to be an array of different lights appearing on bikes these days - many of which cannot be clearly seen.  I had the opposite yesterday on CHR when I overtook a cyclist who had a blinding halogen one which flashed intermittently - and gave me serious visual spots before my eyes.  I stopped and shouted this to him between my own blinking.  Is there a standard for lights on bikes and is it enforceable without making criminals of anyone?

In Response To: I see from the local paper that there is now a dispersal area around Syon Lane stn.for groups of 3 or more youths.Let's hope this solves the problem Yes a dispersal Order has been put in place in Isleworth, which is a local area roughly between the Tesco, London Road and Marlborough School. It is authorised until 30th September when it will be reviewed. Not sure which paper you saw this in, but did it print a map of this location?

If you go to the Civic Centre website..check out the Isleworth and Brentford Committee agenda for a forthcoming meeting..and you will find a pdf file (that's not easy to uplift!).that contains the Police Report for this area.  There's much data there which is of interest to us all. The Report should find it's way to this website ideally..as I doubt if many locals are aware of it. Are you?

"Delighted to hear that bicycle thieves have recently been caught.."Now, now, Jim - that is hardly gossip but possibly a true problem solving Police story which would have been better found out directly from the Police and not fed back and credit diluted (as you say) through the Civic Centre web site.I think one of the difficulties our honest Police service faces is the lack of true understanding of their work and their results so I look forward to seeing the newsletter from our local team.  I am in favour of this 'front line experiences being shared' (you may have observed) as the front room jobs tend to feed the back room boys; and the back room jobs serve the front room boys; both need to work in tandem.  We just need to know where to slot into this....  :-)Sgt Pete - Jim and my son were helping in the river clean up last year and came across what appeared to be the dismantling workshop of either a large bike company or a successful gang of thieves. Jim would have to fill you in (he has photos y'know) and we were wondering whether the mystery has been solved?

Welcome Sgt PeteAre you going to write a book about your experiences in Osterley and Spring Grove ward..I'd love to hear the gossip.  But maybe OSG is a peaceful ward..and there's no much to write about!The link to the Syon Ward map didn't work for me (no %pdf was the response).Key question is do you cover Lot's Ait?  Delighted to hear that bicycle thieves have recently been caught..your teams having found the caches somewhere local (according to reports on Civic centre website)
