www.brentfordhighstreet.com and Wedge Card Launch

Last night saw the launch of www.brentfordhighstreet.com and Wedge Card - a loyalty card for independent shops - at Grounds Coffee and Wine Bar.  There are still some minor corrections that we need to put through the web site, as well as a few gaps to fill in the directory of High Street shops and services, but please visit the site, and let us know what you think.You may also like to create a user account on the site and rate/ review the shops and services.  The site includes information on the Wedge Card, which is available for £10 from participating shops.Best, Andrew

Brentford and Chiswick always had links, local families often had members in both towns (some of us still do). These two areas were linked through voting as was Isleworth. Then we all came under the banner of Hounslow, Chiswick is no longer even mentioned as a place at election time.The absorption into Hounslow was/is the worst thing that could have happened to both Chiswick and Brentford the wealth of brentford was effectively 'stolen' by the move of Brentford's fruit and veg market to the far end of the borough and Chiswick has been treated as the local cash cow ever since.

I wonder if we should rebrand the Borough as London Borough of Brentford, Isleworth or Chiswick?  I shop in Chiswick or out of Borough never, by choice, Hounslow.  As Chiswick has a London post code, I would be happy with London Borough of Chiswick.

I agree Phillip. Brentford lost its identity and power then. I'm not sure what could be done to recapture that power to mould and preserve its own identity. Maybe, a way is to create such a compelling location that its identity cannot be ignored. This would need Brentford not just to rely on the London Borough of Hounslow, but to be key to other bodies and strategies, such as The Thames Landscape Strategy; entertainment networks; business networks......A key part is for people of Brentford and its friends to recognise it as unique.

Historic yes, as part of west London, no! that's fairly recent history. Brentford's history is as the market town of Middlesex. It,s deterioration has been as a part of west London and a part of Hounslow Borough.

I get a bad vibe in the the high street between Catherine Wheel Road to the bridge that crosses over then canal.  The worst areas are at the Nat West Bank going westward where the road swings out a bit to when that horrid churchy thing ends.  It don't matter how much you try to dress up an area, there is something very claustrophobic about that side of the road.  I think we need to get back to basics here and address any primary issues in this vicinity before any9ne tries to adept it to the 21st century.Oh, and I did get a lovely coat in that Butterfly vintage shop the other day. It might/could well have been made for me a half century ago! But the feeling I got outside the shop near the crossing.  Can't quite explain on this web-site 'cos I can't use those four-lettered expletives. LOL.

www.brentfordhighstreet.com Someone's been working hard to get that new website off the ground..and one wishes it well. The style of the site is friendly, colourful and will no doubt be a tonic for Brentford High Street and residents...who will find it a useful reference point.I was more than pleased to recommend Wizzbikes!Let's hope that TW8.com remains the leading must-view website in top spot(!) ..whilst www.brentfordhighstreet.com..in the leading pack..keeps it on it's toes.!But there's only one Forum!Best wishes Andrew.
