Structures next to Thames at Twickenham Road bridge
Does anybody know what these structures are, next to the Thames footpath at Richmond? This one is on the Surrey side of the Thames, in between the Richmond Road and Twickenham Rail bridges. There is one exactly opposite on the Middlesex bank of the Thames:They look like entrances to a tunnel across the Thames. I wonder if they are related to the bridges in some way? The Twickenham Railway bridge was built in 1848 and the Richmond Road bridge in 1933. The architecture of the structures look more 19th century, so maybe built at similar time to the railway bridge? What do you think?
