It's all a bit late for that now. Shops used to charge for carrier bags if shoppers didn't bring their own bags. But by public demand the major shops, especially supermarkets allowed the shoppers free plastic carrier bags with purchases. And even when the bags were free in the big supermarkets the little local shops were still charging 2/1p per bag to shoppers, which was meet with some derision to the local shop-keepers. In hindsight it got people into shops to spend recklessly 'cos they knew they'd be given enough free bags to carry their goods off home. And the share-holders got a nice bubbly luncheon.Personally this all too little, too late. And with too many peoples jumping on the greeny bandwagon. Also, if government/councils were REALLY apposed(sp) to the plastic baggies they would bring back dustbins and not expect people to tie all their rubbish up in several layers of plastic, to then be put into a big extra-strentch(another sp) black bag thingie which is collected by the rubbish-collectors.. Reasoning behind this was? Councillors of yesteryears like to comment? And no quamquat reasons of 'elf'n'safety please.
