Isleworth and Syon School Rugby

Congratulations to the Isleworth and Syon School rugby first XV for being named as the Evening Standard's team of the month for October. They are ranked 9th in the schools' rugby tables at the moment - the top state school in the South East.http://www.schoolsrugby.co.uk/league_EveningStandard.asp

I think you are forgetting that the U16's now u17's have moved up this year and the main event here is not winning it is taking part - commarardary and community - both I&S and Grasshoppers are fundamental in building relationships within the community and have acheived fantastic results. It is really worth meeting these guys aswell as watching them - they are awesome!! Come down to Grasshoppers on Sunday morning and watch the next home game - It'sbound to be exciting.

All pupils from I&S are eligible to join The Old Isleworthians once they leave school, this enthusiastic bunch of 'old boys' and staff keep up the schools' sporting traditions with great enthusiasm (and the beer's cheap too).

Thanks for the photos, Jim. I heartily agree with your sentiments that competitive team sports should be encouraged. I'm glad that the ill-conceived philosophy that to a large extent stamped out competitive sports in schools seems to be on the wane. This combined with the sale of sports fields through much of the 80s and 90s was a lethal combination for our society. Isleworth and Syon is a shining example of excellence in sporting achievement. Vanessa, the team of staff, students and parents of the school are deservedly proud - keep up the good work!

Vanessa must be well pleased!Here is the 1st XV team (2007-2008) picture from the School's website.  Such team sports are to be much encouraged..don't you agree..and always give three cheers for the losers too! ----------------------------------------------------------I saw this sign the other week and thought...click click..that will come in useful one day!----------------------------------------------------------It's important too that these young lads can carry on playing rugby when they leave School..or Uni..and fortunately there are plenty of opportunities.

This is a fantastic achievement. Without wishing to take anything away from the boys and staff it should be pointed out that the high standard of rugby at the school owes something to the partnership with Grasshoppers RFC.

West London is particularly well-represented with St Benedict's in 1st place. Let's hope the 1st XV can go all the way in the U18 Daily Mail cup, repeating the U15 success of 2005.
