Interestingly I was in the Land of the Free for a few days over Remembrance weekend. Where the Canadians we met all wore their version of the Poppy (much nicer than ours may I add), there was nothing in the U.S. of a national commemoration. Sunday was marked by some local parades etc. and a wreath laying somewhere by the V.P., Dubya was among the missing. Monday was a public holiday for Veteran's Day and there were some more functions in various places. It has to be said that a lot of their veterans are well represented among the homeless and are also complaining about their lack of medical care and assistance, what it did lack was a united Act of Remembrance, yet the wounds are still very raw as far back as the Vietnam Vets. It was also interesting to note that the U.S. too has an MRSA problem which was prevalent in sports teams in colleges and the Fire Service! They too are being told they all have to lose weight, get healthy, etc. etc. mind you given the horrendous lack of access to medical care for most people there it is a good incentive to do as much as you can individually.
