Top fish and chips in Brentford

Some of you will have seen on the Chiswick Forum, news of the opening of a new fish and chip shop in Chiswick High Road..and the fact that it might be upstaging a longstanding one called Chris's in Turnham Green Terrace.Brentfordians should have no fear.  The fish and chip shop in Albany Road,Brentford run by that Chinese couple is better by miles..and cheaper too! Indeed, I bought some cod, 2 fishcakes and a small portion of chips..and that should last me till the morning!!Also, they are happy to oblige my odd request to have the fish skin removed before the batter is applied..and the cooking begins! We know of W4 Forum members who much prefer Albany Road too.Do you agree..or do you have another favourite shop in the locality?

None of their Cod comes from the North Sea. In fact most of the Cod now consumed in the UK comes from sustainable stocks far from the North sea.The real problem is EU regs which prevent Cod being retained if caught by accident fishing for other species.dead Cod are thrown back into the sea as fishermen are penalised for landing it. Utterly mad.

The Albany Road chippy really is tops as good as many high rated fish restaurants in West London.The fish and batter is always of excellent quality.Chips are of the classic British type although sometimes not as good as other times.The couple running it are always so polite and friendly.The exterior and shop could do with a spruce up but Brentfords finest seem to have a habit of destroying anything that looks nice around here. A real asset to this really good mixed neighbourhood

There is a kebab shop quite near to the Albany Fish and Chips shop that do really lovely fish and chips and if you ring them beforehand on 0208 560 9436 they will do it nice and fresh.

Cod.Why does the existing EU fish quota state that we have to throw all fish back into the sea when fishing for prawns.Its life jim but not as we know it.??????? Beam me up scotty.The only reason i ask is because have watched tv progamme this eve and was alarmed to see 1 of our hard working fishers chucking it all back. {cod that is} Surely if it was paper money this would never happen,even considering cod is now about £13 per kg.What is going on ? Please can you tell me why EU has so much power to kill so many creatures.

I must try Albany Rd too.  First read about it on the W4 forum.We use Franks, but it was much better when it was run by the previous couple who were there for years (delicious chips; I think they added dripping to the fat), although the husband was a miserable so & so with a face like a wet cod!Franks have a sign saying they will remove the skin before frying if requested.

I can confirm they do cook your meal fresh if you phone them in advance Kevin,do you use the Albany Fish Bar regular Kevin?

If you ring them on 020 85604779 about 10-15 mins before & place your order they'll have it freshly cooked & ready for when you arrive.

Couldn't agree more Jim. The Albany Road Fish Shop is the best for miles. The fish is always fresh and very good quality.

Thank you for not posting a picture of your fish and chips Jim! My mouth is watering at the thought of a good piece of haddock and a few chips...... Had many a supper from that shop whilst on vacation; after a glass or two in the Guardsman (I think that's the pub's name).
