Richard, thanks for the recommendation, I'll put this one on my Christmas list.I agree with you about reintroducing the River Taxis, bringing punters to a vibrant theatre in Brentford, just like in the 17th and 18th centuries. We have had some discussion and ideas on a river taxi service - see topic 'River taxi from Brentford?' in 2004, but this one was for a commuter one and was thought not viable because of the low tidal water. But smaller river taxis could work better. Also the richness of Brentford's past literary tradition is shown in the past topic 'Authors who lived in the Brentford Area and Brentford appearing in literature'. The inns must have been exciting places. Nigel Moore is very knowledgeable on this.I had suggested before in the South of High Street Project:"...to resurrect something like 'The Three Pigeons' as a fringe theatre. The brand is there already from as early as the 1600s, when writers including Shakespeare visited the great Inn, and it has countless references in literature. I would suggest the theatre could be similar to The Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond or The Bush Theatre in Shepherds Bush, which is famous for putting on new plays from up and coming playwrights. Maybe these companies would be interested in managing this one?I think there would be a good market for good challenging theatre in a small fringe theatre, attached to a great inn."Reintroducing small river taxis could combine these great tradition of: Brentford literature, water transport, and enjoyment!
