McDonalds

I remember seeing a post - which I can't find -  in the last few days denigrating McDonalds at Brentford.  I have found posts commenting on the size of the M.As a non-architect I find their building attractive.  I pass there say 4 times a week and haven't noticed a litter problem.  Although I have many good memories of the Red Lion I think McDonalds improves on the appearance of that former pub and  certainly the interior.I do go to McDonalds Chiswick each week and as with all other Ms its interior furnishing is vastly superior to most restaurants.  Its toilets are kept to high standard unlike those of supermarkets. The workers are top-grade.  The company has the good community-consciousnes which most US firms have.I used to go regularly to McDonalds Holborn which suffered the court battle against it 10 or so years ago by youth activists.  Once I witnessed 2 students having finished their meal squash their food remainders on the table and floors and walk out. Many town centres are facing a secular trend of businesses leaving to go to out of town centres.  McDonalds and other cafes/restaurants do a community service by taking over the empty shops particularly those with attractive frontages which would otherwise suffer from neglect.  I attach a city photo of such this below.I'm a vegitarian with strong preference for pure unprocessed food.

With respect to the McDonalds banners, I raised this with council officers.  The response:  "The site will be visited and an assessment made as to whether the banners need advertisement consent or not."  I will let you know when I have more news.Andrew

""I remember seeing a post - which I can't find -  in the last few days denigrating McDonalds at Brentford.  I have found posts commenting on the size of the M.""I might have been me Michael on the Watermans thread...when I suggested that McDonalds posed a non-cultured vista at that riverside location.On an earlier and different thread, somebody was complaining about McDonalds advertising boards, supported on some kind of mini-scaffolding, and which were a bit untidy and prominent. Was planning permission required was the question.When we were at war with the Argentines over the Falkland Islands, where the lives of British troops and Falklanders were at risk, McDonald continued to import aircraft loads of Argentine hamburger meat into the UK via Heathrow Airport...such was and is their respect for national delicacies at such times.McDonalds are not for me...and the sight of them anywhere doesn't register on my pleasure scale. Odd aren't I?But not to spoil a Forum friendship!
