Tuesday rant!

Having popped into Isleworth Library this morning I was amazed to see it now has a pond - the car park is so flooded as to render 2/3 of it impassable unless you are a wading bird, apparently this has been reported umpteen times with no action ensuing. Get home - only to find the recyclers have lost our green box! Last week they left the textiles we put out, which landed up in Richmond's textile recycling and thus contributes to their total. Rant over.

Don't try and justify your exeistence to me - I will never need your help, and did not ask for it in this instance, and I am more than capable of sorting things out for myself, there are some things in this life that you should not have to wait to be asked to do - you just get on with them. If the incident you are referring to was an illegal extension - I seem to remember that in spite of the fact it was highly visible from several places you made a sarcastic request that you needed to  view it from my back garden - knowing full well I would tell you to do the other thing thereby allowing you to say you'd offered help and I'd refused. In fact I seem to recall you and you fellow councillor did nothing - and just recently it went to court and as well as a hefty fine the householder has been told to remove it. Part of being a councillor is keeping your eyes open in the local area and picking up on things before they become a problem. That's not culture it's commonsense. But then of course you couldn't spend all day on local forums spouting.

What the hell is a culture change!Does it mean that important changes to the democracy of our nation, are our politicians about to discuss important changes with the population prior to elections or are they going to start representing all of us instead of just themselves and those that share their own political ambitions, I doubt it.Perhaps it means we are about to cancel Christmas and go back to the druid traditions. Does it mean we are about to exchange the self obsessed view of one group of politicians for the self obsessed views of another group of politicians. Would somebody please explain, as this expression sounds like the same old same old of meaningless politically expressed bull**** to me.

VanessaIf you had raised the issue of your disappearing green box with me then as your councillor I would happily have pursued it on your behalf.  My recollection is that you posted about it on this forum.  That doesn't constitute a request for a councillor's intervention and I remain mindful of the fact that the last time I offered to call on you to discuss an issue of concern which you had raised through this forum you told me in the inimitable way which you have made your own to get lost.I pride myself on the fact that I serve all of my constituents equally and do not administer favours, or disfavours, on account of political affiliation.  It's all part of that culture change which we have been discussing.

I think you are putting your own spin on why people voted the way they did - and whatever the reasons I have never heard of anyone voting for your 'culture change'. In fact I can't remember (although I'm open to correction) this ever being part of anyone's election promises/manifesto committments. As so many of the staff in the Civic Centre these days are temps/agency staff I'm not even clear what it is you mean. Political change is one thing but 'culture' is one of those airy-fairy expressions that don't actually pin you down to anything in particular. No worry - I have e-mailed re the Library lake myself and hunted down the green box 4 houses away! Clearly cleaning out gulleys and sorting out recycling contracts are not part of anyone's 'culture', far too mundane.

SueI don't know where you reside but my constituents are anything but simple and basic.  They wish to be involved in the running of their community and refuse to be bought off with bread-and-circuses and promises of grant-funding if they behave and agree to subordinate themselves to those who consider themselves to be their superiors.You tell us they do not want culture change at the local authority, but omit to deliver a view as to why then they voted for it?

Perhaps what is called for by the Council is a little less focus on consultants' studies and culture changes and a little more focus on the simple, basic services that matter to residents.
