Yes  - everyone will have their own opinions and for what they are worth mine are.Jaqui Smith - out of touch and out of her depth. Shouldn't hold senior office running my country.Ruth Kelly    - clever but arrogant, patronising and irritating and in cloud cuckooland  - and a perfect Hockey captain!!!  Hilary Clinton - Very, very  bright, witty, humble, a natural leader, in touch with reality and in touch with the people. Not at all patronising but a natural politician.  Hope she wins!  If she doesn't, we will have a place for her here as Leader of the Opposition because Smith and Kelly have lost Brown the next election.

One of the most commonly voiced criticisms of politicians is that they are patronising and it is regularly said about Hilary Clinton. Her recent tears were a transparent attempt to soften her rather haughty image. Given that being patronising is a vice that many people in public life are prone to, I wouldn't single out Ruth Kelly as being one of the worst examples on the Westminster scene. She is well spoken and articulate and clearly cleverer than most of her colleagues. Sadly these do not seem to be virtues that make you popular these days.

I think Ms. Kelly is exceedingly patronising - no matter who rates her. The general public are not all morons and she needs to remember to whom she is speaking, sorry I think she's just another one of the people who have never lived in the real world. I love to see women making it in what still is a very masculine world, but many of them seem to get very officious when they are playing with the big boys and there really is no need. I think Hillary Clinton will be the best thing that's happened to the U.S. since Bill, intelligent, focussed, and every inch the politician doing it HER way.

Jacqui Smith does seem seriously out of her depth and has been over promoted. Not recognising the potential for trouble over police pay was a pretty basic error.Ruth Kelly however does appear to always have a very good grasp of whatever portfolio she has been given and is obviously an intelligent woman. People I know in the Civil Service really rate her. Dismissing her as a 'school hockey captain' suggests perhaps that some people have not yet got used to women in positions of authority. Nobody would use the phrase 'school rugger captain' to describe a male with similar perceived character traits.

The first part of that 'qualification' would also apply to large chunks of Media Personnel as well Vanessa, as I pointed out previously.Perhaps we should start a revolution, and send most of them on a rehabilitation reality exercise.

There is a pattern now of 'professional politicians' explanation is - never had a proper job - went from Uni into some political job thence to election. This is becoming more and more the norm, which to me means more and more out of touch with reality. Even for those who did work in the real world at one time, they too seem to have great difficulty with not being sucked into the ivory tower syndrome. They are advised by senior civil servants -ex-public schoolboys to a man, what do they know?

I've never known a Government to have so many Home Secretaries over a shortish space of time...thereagain the problems covered by that Dept have rarely been so great.I thought Charles Clarke might have survived longer. It's suppose to be a top office for a statesman.. Douglas Hurd material perhaps.

After hearing Jacqui Smith's pathetic performance when being questioned by John Humphries on Radio 4 yesterday, I'd go for just plain stupid. And uncharacteristically Michael Portello on 'This Week'  last night said  "there's no hope - she even looks like a buffoon"  I thought that was a bit over the top but Diane Abbot had a chuckle!
