Brentford High Street Free Parking

Word of cautionParking Fines being issued if you stay over the 2 hours.  Don't know if this is legal but doing some research on it.Seems sad that LBH feel the need to do this.  Since it has been open I know of only one instance when someone couldn't park in there because is was full - and that was only today!

And if you're happy to give Brentford's historic streets and pathways a miss - Kew Retail park just 5 minutes away with ample parking and no pressure on 'timed' shopping. Completely stress free!

Isn't Brentford a tourist destination?Seriously, people do come to the area to have a look around the historic streets and pathways. Where are they suppose to park without falling foul of parking meters and their time limits?Oh yes!..just remembered!  Free parking all day and night at the Watermans Art Centre!!  Don't tell the Bees away supporters!

Traders were consulted - in fact, the impetus for this came from traders. Two hours may not be enough for restaurants, but after 6.30 there is unrestricted parking in the parking bays so it shouldn't be an issue.

Two hours would be ok for most shoppers. Problem would be people eating in the resturants.

Its debatable but I'd be interested to know what the traders think and if they were consulted. I agree that free parking for an indefinite period would be abused but is 2 hours enough?  I had a similar experience in Hounslow where I was so rushed to avoid getting a fine I didn't get half of my Xmas shopping done so I went home and shopped OnLine for quite a lot and the rest I bought at Tescos, Sainsburys and Syon Park Garden Centre where I knew I could shop at leisure. As much as I hate to support these huge corporations I know that I don't have the additional parking time stress. Possibly 4 hours would deter all-day parking and provide reasonable time for us to support the local traders?

Sorry, Eileen, but I disagree. The car park is there for shoppers and I would say that 2 hours should be sufficient for that. If it becomes known as a car park where you can stay all day, then there will be no benefits for traders, as nearly all the users will be nearby workers.I'm sorry for those who have tickets but the signing is clear...
