Heat or Heat

Just watched Dispaches programme on channel 4. Perhaps Messrs. Sheerins, Hughes and other New Labour PC Lefties would give their opinions on the plight of our pensioners here in England, where some are having to choose whether to have the heating on or a nourishing meal in their stamachs. Some of these have worked all of their lives and lived/served during the war, is this how we should "care for them", many are dying of hypothermia, meanwhile Gordo and his cronies bury their noses ever deeper in the trough. To say that I am disgusted is putting it mildly!Will either of the above explain to me, why in Gods' name we are paying benefits to Muslim men who have 1,2,3 or even 4 wives. Am I missing something here, is this what the New Labour/Socialist left wing luvvies want? Isn't polygamy a crime in this country, and do we want shariah law for these communities who live here, yet want to make up their own rules to live by?PS. Perhaps Ann or Alan Keen may tear themselves away from the trough and explain the thinking behind this, as an ex nurse does she not care about these vulnerable people? I can dream can't I?

Just seen in the paper, that Alistair Darling is looking to take more tax off pensioners who have paid into a retirement pension fund, and get this in addition to the State Pension........my advice is to P**s it up the wall why you can, and you will be looked after when and if you manage to reach retiremant.........but I guess thats the champagne socialists for you!!!

think your missing the point, the goverment are treating the old like rubbish while paying out money to all the jolly come lately lot. legally i'm only allowed to have 1 wife,thats the law in this country or is it ??

Keith"I personally think it is better to do it that way than to give winter fuel allowances to everyone,bearing in mind even people who move abroad for the winter still get it and there are many older people who are quite or very well off".Child benefit is also paid to every one with children, even MP's, so why should someone who has worked all of their lives and contributed to a retirement pension, (note I said contributed!)almost 50 years, having left school at 15.So why on earth should I fill out endless forms to claim a decent pension, while we continue to hand out benefits like confetti, it is reported that a Polish newspaper printed the benefits that their citizens could claim in the UK. Yes there are many pensioners who are well off, but do you believe it was handed to them on a plate? I well remember Field Marshal Montgomery claiming his pension, and when questioned why he was claiming it he said "because I bloody well paid for it!"

DaveYou omitted to comment on why muslims with more than one wife, whether residing here or not, should be able to claim benefit for them, while at the same time denying pensioners care. I genuinely believed that polygamy was an offence punishable by a prison sentence, are we now operating a different system for some minorities.  Are we to become the worlds benevolent society, the Poles are claiming child benefit for their children at home, with apparently no checks by us or them, get ready for a large tax hike soon! Over to you Dave.

That was the experience my mother had when she was suffering from cancer, you may be surprised that this was when  your comrades were in power! similarly when my wife came home from intensive care, no help whatsoeverDo you also recall that Alistair Darling, some years ago gave pensioners 75p rise, yes Mr Hughes a very caring compassionate lot you hold in such high regard.I believe that the present council will root out some of the dead wood at the Civic Centre, and leave us with professional people who want a fair days pay for a fair days work, and rumour has it that ther will be no increase in Council Tax again this year. Unlike your lot who had year on year increases, with no improvement to our services.

This has been a dilemma for many poorer older people for many a year in this country,a live issue every winter for as long as I can remember.Perhaps we should consider the huge profits the gas and electricity companies make and fuel could be charged at a  lower rate for those most affected.Like everything,it may be open to abuse,so means testing could play a part. You may be surprised to find that its the Tory councils that are doing the cuts..look what they did in Hounslow to the elderly over Christmas leaving them with no care at all..
