Niel (and others). I agree that debate should be kept positive. Sadly for us who are involved in local political issues the temptation to "goad" one's opponents, particularly those who are excitable and lack a propensity for perspective and self-control, is often difficult to resist. I have been guilty of this. That said I have always commented that those who complain should use the facility themselves more often. This in itself would immediately generate more balance. There are those, here and on W4, whose only contributions would appear to be to condemn those whose preference is to debate political issues.I hope your understandable distaste for the tackier kind of political squabbling does not extend to wishing to curtail debate of a political nature of any kind. These are issues which are important to many people, hence the number of posters who contribute to them.I have just, with a certain trepidation, introduced a new thread arising from a Motion which I submitted to Borough Council last night and which was carried. Discussion of the debate has necessary entailed referring to the contributions of its opponents, and doubtless those opponents may feel that my report is inaccurate and may wish to respond with their own account of events. I believe this is legitimate and reasonable. With goodwill, I believe it is possible to maintain standards and balance. But please, let's have some more contributions on a wider range of topics.
