GraffitiWhat is graffiti?Graffiti is the illegal and unauthorised use of spray paint, marker pens or other materials to deface property by affixing messages, sometimes abusive and offensive, drawings, ‘tagging’ or other unintelligible scribble on available surfaces, usually exposed to public view.Who should I report graffiti to?Graffiti is a criminal offence, namely criminal damage. If placed on your property then it should be reported in the first instance to the local police.If you see racially abusive or offensive graffiti on any property please leave full details on the graffiti hotline 020 8583 2620.Although it is the responsibility of the property owner, we will remove the majority of graffiti from private property free of charge. In some instances property owners may be asked to remove the graffiti themselves. Graffiti removal kits and wipes can be obtained from us.It is the responsibility of public utilities and concerns to deal with the removal of graffiti from their property e.g. street cabinets, railway bridges etc.Contact us to report instances of graffiti on council-owned property or seek further information.Will the council remove graffiti? If not what can I do?If the graffiti is racially abusive or offensive and on council-owned property we will undertake to remove it within 24 hours or by the next working day.If other graffiti on council-owned property is reported we will endeavour to remove it within 3 working days.If the graffiti is on your private property, please contact us and we will remove it if possible.
