Cut funding to HREC

The expansion of Heathrow would impact on everyone living nearby, Black, White, Yellow or Brown.Hounslow's Race equality Council’s decision to defend only the interests of an ethnic minority as reported in the Local Papers recently has confirmed my suspicion that it is not interested in equality, but is an organisation who’s mission is solely to promote the welfare of minorities.By exposing themselves just prior to yesterday's election they may have encouraged voters to consider a party less sympathetic to minorities and more in tune with the main stream.The Tax payer should not be made to support self interst groups like this and I suggest it's time the HREC became self funding.

Me thinks you doth protest too much. You and I both know that if this organisation (or indeed any QUANGO) were to object to anything on the grounds it mainly effects Whites they would be shouted down.This is a racist act but so like so many in our country racism only seems to work one way.By all means come back, but my contribution finishes here.

HarleyWith respect I probably have a better idea than most of what constitutes a racist and it is frankly silly to describe the HREC in this way.  Whether Mr. Buttar and HREC are right to pursue this line of objection or not is another matter entirely and it is not in my view unreasonable to question their actions, but to describe them as racists sadly only serves to undermine what may otherwise have been a valid argument.

You say "good idea or bad idea we will all owe him a debt of gratitude if he is successful".Let me see if I've got this right: You are saying that the Tax payer should not only financialy support but actually Congratulate this racist act?

AndrewI think the allegation of racism was levelled at me in reply to my comments about Ken Livingstone's dignified exit speech, although quite what the connection is escapes me completely.As for Mr. Buttar's comments in the Chronicle, good idea or bad idea we will all owe him a debt of gratitude if he is successful.

I wonder what the reaction would have been if it was stated that whites would only be affected. Whatever the reasons however it was an ill-founded ill thought out idea. Dave Hughes has already implied on his posts that racism is showing, but remarkably fails to condemn this idea. The clutching of straws explanation doesn't wash John, I would prefer to hear Mr Bhuttas (apologies if I have misspelled his name!) explanation for this!

My reading of the HREC remarks is that people locally are becoming increasingly desparate about the likely expansion of Heathrow and are clutching at straws to oppose it. The HREC example, I'm afraid, is just one of these straws.

As I understand it HREC challenged the government's plans to expand Heathrow on the grounds that it might be discriminatory, bearing in mind that there is a very large Asian community in the immediate vicinity of the airport, where any increase in activity will hit hardest.  I don't believe any "decision" as such has been involved.  Hope this helps.

Perhaps it would be wiser if Mr Bhuttar gave an explanation as to the thinking behind this decision. If it is in fact true, I personally will be seeking a review of the grant of Over £16,000 being given at taxpayers expense. I will remind those who traditionally use the race card, to remind themselves that this organisation (HREC) stands for Hounslow Race EQUALITY council. By no means does this statement from them suggest to me that they have equality in mind when sending out this message.Can someone from the HREC come out with an explanation as to why they think this?
