Chelsea Flower Show recycling

I recently received this email, which I thought may be of interest...Dear Sir or Madam,I am writing from the Good Gifts Catalogue to offer you a truly good gift. Because we at Good Gifts hate waste, we have taken on the task of recycling materials from the Chelsea Flower Show. The show is the highlight of the gardening year and for the very first time we are offering community groups, city farms, school gardens, allotment services and other similar groups, like yourselves, the chance to take a piece of Chelsea away with them.We do not know what will be available for recycling. The nice people at the Royal Horticultural Society (the show’s organisers) have suggested from past experience that there will be plants, turf, bricks, stone, paving, breeze blocks, plant pots and timber. This year because exhibitors are being encouraged to recycle, there may be a great deal (each exhibitor has to clear their sites, and since transport costs are high in previous years much has simply been discarded). To participate your group will have to register, and you will be given a specific time be between Monday 26th May and Monday 2nd June when you can come and collect. You will have to bring your own transport (lorry or van) and be able to load any stuff on. (We will not have strong men to help you). To get involved you will have to complete an application form. On this form you can list items you are particularly interested in having. If possible we will earmark some for you (if there are any to be earmarked). We are bearing the cost of the exercise, and will do our best to see it goes smoothly, with benefits all round. Be clear, we are not offering free Chelsea Flower Show exhibition gardens. We are just inviting you to join us in this adventure, and see if we cannot find a better use for the leftovers than landfill (and we expect there to be great things to be had).We will select organisations on a first come, first served basis. Since we have undertaken to clear the site we are particularly keen to hear from groups who have the facility to take large amounts of landscaping material. If you would like any further information regarding the scheme or an application form please contact Alex on people@charitiesadvisorytrust.co.uk or on 020 77949835We look forward to hearing from youThe Team at Good Gifts
