A case for an amnesty only when your friends are in trouble

This could be seen as very intresting for Cllr Bowen and Andrews who have been very very keen in gaining the votes of Cranford by the use of one Parmod Kad ex Cllr who was dropped from standing for the labour party, yes this the person who in fact started all this fuss in the first place with the omsbudmans report...before you start to say well prove the vote sorry chaps but a recorded vote did happen and there are some with that proof.I think all sides agree that planning should be enforced but to miss-lead the Omsbudmans by providing information that was false in order for him to form the wrong conclusion well well that takes some nerve, weather that was officers or Cllrs I am sure that will come out in the wash in due time...Now back to Parmods relationship with the Tories as far back as 2005-2006 you can see the love affair in the press of the time when letters where written saying how wonderfull it will be with these people behind him to support him getting The Meadow Bank Centre. the last election we saw good old Parmod being greeted by Camoran himself into the tory ranks...We then see a petition with chief signatory a one Mr Parmod kad de-crying how good for the Council that the ombudsman report did no go far enought...remeber this is the same report to which Parmod voted against officer recomendations..huh huh..As with all things you can see that Kama could describe this wheel of fortune as now it would seem that Parmod may be forced with the same actions of Enforcement due to the size of his own property and what Andrews is asking for is a let off clause...These coming months should get intresting for keen watchers of the council...May be at long last we will get the enquiry that is required to find out what is going on with planning are Cllrs being mislead by officers or was planning being used as a political weapon..its about time we got some real answers and not the propergander this lot would have you swallow.

Well I for one would love to hear them Dave.  Do you know something I don't?If this is a follow-on from Councillor Ruth Cadbury's allegation, made at the last Borough Council, that a "deal" was done with Andrew Morgan-Watts in return for his nomination as Mayor then you need to be aware that she apologised to him after the meeting, having accepted that it was untrue.  It is a mistake to judge everybody else by one's own political standards Dave.

The first part I would agree with, the rest it will only ever now be a she said he said waste of time. I know like many other we all hated the the annual mayor thing and yes we got the lives bugged out of us but it was a internal democratic descision, Vannesa you should here the stories about the coalition and how they have to decided and which Cllrs went in begging to be made Mayor's...He He He

In actual fact to put the record straight it was Pat Nicholas and I who put the motion re 'sharing the Mayoralty' to the Labour Group some years ago. The idea was that the longest serving councillor should be offered the Mayoralty irrespective of party A) to bring some sense into the proceedings and B) to stop it being used as a 'sweetener' for certain people, and it was accepted. This would also stop the months of people desperate to get the position from constantly canvassing other members and bugging the life out of them. However, what upset the then leadership, such as it was, of the next Labour Group after we lost our seats was that they were bound to offer the Mayoralty to Cllr. Connelly as he was the longest serving member, you can imagine how that stuck in certain throats, hence the disgraceful shenanigins when the desperate, spiteful leadership tried to concoct stories about him in an effort to discredit his reputation. The policy decision regarding the Mayoralty was then hastily dropped, which of course excluded all other parties. When John Major said 'politics is a rough old trade' he wasn't kidding.

Andy - you would say that wouldn't you?Not necessarily Vanessa, I'm sure that there will be issues that I will disagree with. But as a pensioner, the freezing of increases in Council Tax for two successive years is a great help. Barbara Reid's overhaul of the Planning committee, and the pursuit of offenders who brazenly defied enforcement notices is an issue that had been ignored for far too long, we were fast becoming like Wembley!. Recent protests by those affected goes to prove what a problem we were letting ourselves in for. Not to mention the sharing of the mayoralty between party's. I am prepared to give them a chance to change things, and thus far they haven't disappointed. What I will say however is that you were honest with your decisions on planning issues wherever they came from. It's a pity your then colleagues didn't act in  the same way.

David - Parmod Kad did nothing at all in the last by-election and wasn't asked to, I never trusted him from the outset - he was just hedging his bets, he along with several others would change like chameleons depending on what was in it for them personally and will continue to do so while daft people go along with this nonsense. Far from being defensive, I am merely telling it as it was - I was a member of the planning committee for a number of years and had ample opportunity to witness what people were playing at, and it was pretty disgraceful. The Leadership knew and did nothing - sorry but that was just another nail in the coffin along with their disgraceful treatment of John Connelly, you can't play silly buggers with legislation for your own ends.Andy - you would say that wouldn't you?

Errr vanessa Parmod joined your gang of independents for some time if I remeber right, so I can understand you being defensive,But should we not go full steam ahead and make sure that all enforcements happen, What Andrews is looking for is a get out clause for his mates and rightly so the Officer has pointed out what he is asking for is illegal. you cant have it everyway but which.

Well said Vanessa.......with the exception of your comment, that you have "very little time for this council" I believe that they are trying to make a real difference, and I fully support some of the tough decisions they have and have to to make!

As has been pointed out David - an amnesty would be illegal. There is no doubt in my mind that some former councillors did come the old soldier where planning matters were concerned, the Labour Group did itself no favours by refusing to rein them in in spite of complaints from some of its own members, thinking that was the way to ensure loyalty and that hands went up at the appropriate moment, some hopes. It wasn't right then and it isn't now, I have precious little time for this council but this tough stance on enforcement is right and long overdue, it is very unfair that these people who've been caught should get away with it when others jump through all the required hoops and pay up and I don't give a toss what their politics are.
