Report argues Mayor should be accountable to local authority leaders

Anybody got any views on this, see front page of this site, some points have merit, while others I think would be taking the GLA back to the old style GLA. Mind you the policy report does sound like its coming from one of the Tory qaungos such as the Brusel sprout group that one of Hounslow Tories belong's (no slight to brusel sprouts just can't remeber the name of that silly group), I may be wrong and it may be a genuine policy group never the less, intresting to see what other think.

Try a little more water with it Dave, then we will know what the bloody hell you are talking about. Did you ever have to write reports as a councillor, if so who deciphered/translated them........the mind boggles!

Are you referring to the old Association of London Government, the ALG?

I can detect another Phil Labour rant coming, I do confess I don't really know a lot about the Old GLA but was the membership made of Cllrs from the bouroughs with this sort of remit, yes I did stick it in as a method for creating debate, but it does seem Londoners did have a lot of sympathy for the old style GLA, The nearest I have seen would be of course The Greater Manchester Authority, lucky for Mancherster they had the controll of the Airport which ment the dividend the airport gave them would allow them to plow money back into the bouroughs, the other side was they also had a very good public transport system untill the break up and it was carved up.
