Bo Diddley:  Another Rock'n'Roll Great Dies

Sadly Bo Diddley has passed away.  He was one of the founders of rock'n'roll in the 1950s. He wrote and played his own music and had his own original style.I saw him performing at the Brentford Blues Club held at the new Red Lion around 1985 to an audience of maybe 100 where he gave an excellent performance. One of my favourite Bo Diddley tracks is 'Background to a Music' on the 'Got Another Bag of Tricks' album showing his humour and creativity.Among the many obituaries is from the NYTimes http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/03/arts/music/03diddley.html?hp#

Yes it's all just another reminder - as if one was needed, that we're all getting on a bit. Personally I want a recount - there's a gap between me being 20 and now, I must have missed something, damned if I can remember most of it!

I remember being turned on to Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry by the Rolling Stones in the early '60s. Their early gigs at the Ricky Tick Club, Crawdaddy and Eel Pie Island were full of CB and BD covers.Those were the days when Rythym and Blues was a hard-nosed cross between rock'n'roll and the blues. Nowadays, what masquerades as R&B is sloppy, warbling nonsense. God I love being a grumpy old man!!!
