West London Orbital Through Brentford Proposal

Listen here at http://www.creationvideo.co.uk/wlb/ for a clear and coherent presentation of the West London Orbital presentation summary by West London Business.The arguments presented are that : West London business is being bottlenecked by our road system which is difficult to expand : that existing public transport links radiate from London centre on east-west radials - north-south links are needed to create and integrated West London network.The proposed line runs from Brent Cross to Surbiton (...Ealing..Northfields..Brentford..Richmond..Kingston)West London Business have hit the nail on the head.  South West London is difficult to access from Brentford without going into Clapham Junction by rail, or Earls Court by Tube or Kingston by bus.  But there are extensive business and personal links within West London which are inhibited by this lack of transport links.The proposed line will have links to Crossrail.In the past Hounslow Council shied away from providing an improved tube link to Brentford.  In its Transport Policy document published 2-3 years ago it ruled out a tube station for Brentford.I hope the new administration will give the West London Business proposal the attention it deserves.

The shops in Brentford don't try to compete with Brent Cross, they're local or niche speciality shops.  Access to a major shopping centre such as Brent Cross provides quicker and more comprehensive shopping - economies of scale.  Improved transport links enables centres of excellence (economies of scale, range, depth) to emerge in West London.  Brentford is then part of a West London network providing SyonPark, Music&Steam Museums, PCWorld, GSK etc on GreatWestRoad, Watermans, canal and Thames for visits from rest of West London consumers or businesses.  And we can concentrate on providing better living conditions for our residents.

It would make a huge difference where it to go ahead. Presumably if it was to link up with SW Trains the line would go directly under the mainline station with an interchange there.15 minutes to Brent Cross might not be great news for local shops though.
