Brentford at the Watermans

The Brentford High Street Steering Group is organising a fund raising evening on Friday 26 September at the Watermans to raise money for the Christmas Lights 2008 and for a worthwhile local cause. Our cause this year is the First World War Memorial at St Lawrence’s Church, which commemorates the men who lost their lives in 1914 to 1919 from West Brentford.  St Lawrence’s Church has not been used as a church for many years and is included in the South Side of the High Street regeneration project.  The memorial is therefore out of place is its present location and is in desperate need of restoration.  The plan is to have the restoration work undertaken and relocate the stone to Brentford Library and place it amongst the existing memorials.  These fallen men can then be recognised in the Remembrance Day Services held annually at the Library. The fundraising event will form part of the Cultural Olympiad Weekend celebrations being held at the Watemans.  The Cultural Olympiad is a four year programme of cultural events culminating as the Olympic Games start.  The evening will start with a champagne reception and art exhibition followed by dinner and a fund raising auction. The Brentford High Street Steering Group is appealing to local residents and to the business community for support.  We are looking for anything which may be auctioned or raffled.  Items may vary from a bottle of wine from a well wisher or dinner for two from a local restaurant, a piece of porcelain or a piece of jewellery no longer worn.  Promises are also a good way to get involved.  This is could be an offer to do some decorating for a day or an afternoon’s gardening.   Any donation large or small will be greatly appreciated.  Financial donations will be accepted through the Brentford Chamber of Commerce.Tickets for this exciting evening will be on sale shortly through Watermans, Grand Union Community Development and Quilliam Property Services. Please give your support and know you have made a difference. For more information please contact Julia Quilliam 020 8847 4737.Brentford helping Brentford.
