Southside regeneration & Eco towns

Seems very quiet on the southern front? How is the proposed southside redevelopment going? Does anybody know if a decision of what to do with the Southside has been made.Will the developers create the new community with energy efficient ideas in mind or build a few more energy wasteing concrete structures.In the interim can the original business owners be reinstated as the only occupiers now are birds and relics.Evicting the guys from the Boatyard,Brentford Marine Services and other local business people was a costly unpleasant mistake that does not seem to benefit anyone in the short term.Every new building development from independent to mass comercial should be designed with low to zero carbon status, that innovate  and inspire through design,Carbon efficient,practical and affordable.

You won't get an argument from me - I will watch the programme with barely concealed fury as I have two sons still at home who can't get anywhere as they just can't earn enough. I think a lot of these little houses in Liverpool and places like it make lovely homes and communities, but sad to say John Prescott had other very grandiose ideas for knocking streets of these down and building posh housing that local people would not have been able to afford. Similarly BoJo so far has allowed people to get off the hook where they should be made to provide a certain percentage of social/affordable housing as part of developing, it is a disgrace. But I really wouldn't have expected anything else.

83,000 vacant properties??? If a renovate to buy sheme was implemented so that many of the people who rent at present were allowed to purchase these derelict buildings at a somewhat reduced rate(based on structure condition) then this would surely prevent the need for new developers to evict local Companies and people for an idealistic pipe dream,that may occur in the future??. Also this would prevent potential new developers building on Flood plains and sand or investing in a false economy that is dependant on the weather.Not enough is being done to sure up our flood defences and incorporate renewables into houseing manufacture,and preventing greedy people from owning to much property and evicting local people and making stacks of cash through chargeing people an exhorbitant rent.Look at what happened to walthamstow dog track last week?./ another fine example of how to prevent people not go to the dogs whilst there whole social network does go to the dogs.Regeneration should involve local people not REMOVAL OF LOCAL PEOPLE ,reinvigoration through investment of exising infrastructure,SURELY ???????????Regards

Programme on BBC4 this week (Thursday) about housing found 83,000 empty properties across the land. A lot belonging to TFL, the Cabinet Office, local councils. Actual streets of empty housing in Liverpool left standing after some regeneration scheme never happened - a bloody scandal. On top of that there is the spectre of many council and other social housing propeties not being occupied by the real tenants but instead being sub-let, no council has yet tackled this and one that started soon stopped when they realised how widespread this was - and just didn't want to pursue it any further as it was a real can of worms! Why keep building when there is so much more that could be done with what already exists?
