I was told yesterday about an old cat who was left at a vet practice in Twickenham who is in desperate need of a home. She apparently doesn't need much look after just a home and some food.They also have an abandoned dog, a boarder terrier also needing a new home.

They also charge - one of our moggies came from them years ago - he was just beautiful and only died last year, but we had to pay for him and he only had temporary vaccinations from them so we had to take him to the vet as soon as we could for the full monty. Unless you personally know someone whose cat has had a litter I'd think a free moggy is unlikely, we got our newest boy as a tiny kitten from the Gumtree site from a lady in Hounslow whose daughter's cat had had kittens and that cost us £40! My son says he's a new Oompa Loompa breed as he's the smallest cat we've ever had, bags of personality though!

Simon, I would echo the advice from Vanessa and Sarah.However, having said that, have you tried the RSPCA? They are always looking for people to adopt pets that have been abandoned/badly treated.

I agree with Vanessa - costs of looking after a pet run into hundreds of £'s a year.

Very few are given away these days - I see H.A.W.S. want £75.00 but that does include quite a lot of things that will cost at the vets to have done yourself. The cost of having moggies is considerable now, with vaccinations, neutering, microchippng and dental care, this may not apply to you, but these are things that have to be taken into account if you are to be a responsible pet owner.
