Mike had been a member of the Twickenham Cycling Club since 1997, and we are very sad to read of his untimely death, and shocked that it occurred on a local cycle-path. He hailed from Huddersfield and had been living in Brentford/ Chiswick for many years. He appeared to be retired, we believe he had once been "something in the City" but we are unable to recall exactly what his occupation was, or if he ever spoke about it. We regret that we do not know his next-of-kin, although as has been said, he must have had some relatives somewhere, however distant.Mike was somebody who kept himself to himself somewhat, whilst at the same time contributing in so many ways to local life. A very private man, it has taken this unfortunate development to show us how little we, like his other friends and neighbours, actually knew about him beyond cycling matters, which are what interest us most and unite us. Although we saw a lot of him at our Club events and rides, we are surprised to discover that he was a regular church-goer, as we were under the impression that he spent most of his time on his bike, either with us or other friends, or by himself. We held an impromptu ride to his favourite tea-stop in the Surrey Hills on Sunday, and stood for a minute's silence in his memory. We will be thinking about how we can organise a proper tribute to him in due course. We don't know what the procedure is in cases like this, nor who to contact, but we hope that we will be informed about his funeral arrangements in good time so that we can pay our last respects to our Club-mate.We can be contacted at www.twickenhamcc.co.uk
