Why not boycott Heathrow?
Having witnessed scenes of mace stealing and bearded men in woolly hats being hauled away from demos in Sipson I wonder how many people getting so worked up about the third runway announcement actually participated in the consultation. I suspect most people are like me - they aren't really that keen about a third runway but know they can live with it and they are aware that they are going to be using the facility when it opens so didn't really make much of an effort to protest when there was a chance to stop the project. For those that say they are going to fight this to the end the only really effective weapon they have is a boycott of Heathrow. If there was a genuine and implacable opposition to the third runway this would soon get a groundswell of support. The fact of the matter is that for the vast majority of West Londoners the noise and pollution caused by the airport is partly offset by having easy access to a massive number of destinations on their doorstep.
